Sailor Articuno: TM47, Made in Johto [Episode 173153]

by Shritistrang

Mamoru gestured towards Charizard. "Nephrite, Psybeam!"

"Kadabra!" The psychic Pokémon raised his spoon and concentrated. A multi-colored beam of psychic energy was being fired at the fiery dragon. Charizard roared as the mental effects of the attack confused his brain. He realized that this had to be a powerful opponent, so instead of lying down to sleep, he faced the Kadabra in battle.

"That's is, Charizard," Ash cheered. "And now, start with Flamethrower!"

Charizard roared and exhaled a mighty blast of fire.

"Use Psychic," Mamoru commanded.

And by using the power of his mind, Nephrite controlled the flames and made them fly past him.

"That Kadabra has to be especially powerful if he can do that," Brock gasped.

Sakura nodded. "Yeah, even if he's not a Fighting-type, Ryu taught Mamoru's Pokémon to focus their mind... which is especially useful with a Psychic Pokémon."

"It's okay," Ash shouted. "Try getting close and hit it with Slash!"

Although Charizard preferred to roast his opponents with powerful Fire Attacks, he obeyed his trainer this time. Beating his mighty wings, he rushed at Kadabra and attacked him with his sharp claws.

"Braaaa..." Nephrite moaned in pain.

"Use Recover," Mamoru simply stated.

And in an instant, Nephrite's wounds were being healed.

Ash groaned. "I hate that move..."

"And now, Disable!" Mamoru shouted.

"You got to stop him," Ash told Charizard. "Flamethrower!"

Charizard and inhaled again, but before he could attack Nephrite, the Kadabra's disable attack hit him and stopped his flames.

"Now finish it," Mamoru commanded. "Psychic Attack!"

"Kadaaaaabraaa!" Waving his hand and spoon around, Kadabra lifted the mighty Fire Pokémon off the ground, turned him around in mid-air and slammed him downwards.

Charizard yelped and collapsed.

"Mamoru won this round," Ryu said. "Now for the final round... Whoever wins this time is the winner of the battle."

"Okay, Charizard, return! You did well!" Ash called back his Charizard and frowned.

'Mamoru will surely keep his strong fighter for the last round,' he thought. 'And I guess that will be Machop. Okay, then I know what to do...'

"I choose... Pidgeotto!"

And as he threw the Pokéball, his bird Pokémon appeared.

"Pidgeooo!"

Mamoru smirked after calling back his Kadabra. "Okay, that's what I thought... There might be a slight chance that you would also have a Psychic Pokémon, but then again, I guess you would have used it against Nephrite. You knew I would probably choose my Machop Jadeite... so you chose a Flying-type. But..." He grinned. "Jadeite isn't the only Pokémon I have left. So I choose..." He threw one of his balls.

"Zoisite!"

"Goooolem!"

"A Golem?" Ash yelped. "A Rock Pokémon?"

"Great, Flying-types normally have no chance against rock-types," Brock groaned. "I hope Ash has some tricks left or I'll believe he will lose this one."

Ami looked at her love, as he stood out there on the field, clutching his Pidgeotto's Pokéball and looking at his opponent with determination in his eyes.

"He will win," she said. "He will find a way. I know it..."

"So, you ready to give up?" Mamoru asked.

"No way," Ash snarled. "Your Golem may have an advantage, but that doesn't mean I can't win. Gimme your best shot!"

"Okay, if you insist... Zoisite, Rock Throw!"

"Gooo..." The round, boulder-like Pokémon dug out some rocks from the ground and hurled them at Ash's bird Pokémon.

"Pidgeotto, defend yourself with Whirlwind!"

"Pidgeottoooo!" Flapping his feathered wings, Pidgeotto created a strong gust of wind which turned into a small tornado, blowing the incoming boulders away.

"Great, and now use Sand-Attack!"

"Pidge, Pidgeotto!" The bird came close to the ground and raised a big amount of dust by flapping his wings, which he blew towards the Golem.

"Gooolem!" Zoisite tried to wipe the sand out of his eyes, but his arms were way too short for that.

"Never mind that," Mamoru commanded. "He's near the ground, use Rollout!"

"Golem!" Zoisite retracted his head, arms and legs and rolled towards Pidgeotto like a living bowling ball.

But, as his accuracy was being lowered by the sand Pidgeotto had swept his way, his aiming was a little off, and Pidgeotto could easily dodge.

"And now..." Ash made a dramatic pause. "Use Steel Wing!"

"Huh?" Misty was not the only one to be surprised. "How could Pidgeotto know Steel Wing?"

The bird's wings began glowing as they got coated with a thin layer of steel. He flew towards the Golem with outstretched wings.

"Pidgeottoooo!"

While flying past him, the Steel Wings cut through the stone layer of Zoisite's skin. Pidgeotto hit the Golem so hard that he instantly got knocked out.

"Golem is defeated!" Ryu declared. "The winner of this round and the battle for the Belt Badge is Ash Ketchum from Pallet Town!"

"Whoohoo!" Ash cheered with joy, while his Pidgeotto circled him happily. "We did it!"

Mamoru called back his Golem, then walked up to Ash. His face was grim.

"Just... how did you manage to teach your Pidgeotto a move like that?"

Ash grinned. "Well, just before I went to Cinnabar Island, I met a trainer from Johto at a Pokémon Center... He was interested in trading TMs... so I gave him one of mine in exchange for his Steel Wing TM, a very useful TM developed by scientists in Johto. And I taught it to my Pidgeotto, in case he would ever have to fight a Rock Pokémon once."

Mamoru sighed. "I guess I underestimated your skills as a trainer..." He smiled. "Good job! It was a nice and fair battle, and I'm happy to challenge you again some time."

"Thanks, Mamoru," Ash replied. "I was having fun, too. You certainly have the skills like a true Gym Leader..."

"I have to say," Ryu nodded as he came closer. "That was some nice fighting you showed us today, Ash. Even I was impressed when you suddenly used Steel Wing. Although... you probably should train your Charizard a little harder... I had the feeling he wouldn't have obeyed you if Mamoru's Kadabra hadn't hit him first."

Ash chuckled nervously. "Yeah, that's not the first time I have that problem..."

Ryu pulled something out of his pocket. "Anyway... I'm proud to give you the official Belt Badge of the Indigo League... wear it with pride!"

Ash grinned as he accepted the round badge which resembled a black belt. He raised it over his head in joy. "All right! Now I have seven badges!"

His friends also came over. Misty was going to congratulate him first, but Ami beat her to it... The Legendary Pokémon in human form threw herself at her lover and hugged him with all her might. "Ash! Congratulations, you did great!"

"A-a-ami..." Ash gasped. "Oxygen... becoming an issue..."

"Oops!" She giggled and let go of him. "Sorry about that..."

Misty was deep in thought as she watched Ash hug her back. Could it be that those two...

"Hey Ash!" Brock shouted. "Good work! I swear, if you knew that move when you first fought me in my gym, you would have easily beaten me at your first try."

"Thanks, Brock," Ash responded. "Hey, Misty! You wanna congratulate me too or what?"

"Um... oh, sure! Congratulations, Ash!"

And while she was happy for him to have won a new badge, why was she so upset when she saw how Ami was hugging him?

It couldn't be... jealousy... could it?

Misty mentally shook her head! Naaaaah... why would she be jealous? It wasn't like she was Ash's girlfriend... right?
