Just when Ash and his friends were walking out of the gym main entrance, a loud voice stopped them.
"Ash!"
Ash turned around and saw Ryu, Sakura and Mamoru standing there. "Yeah, what's up?"
Ryu smiled and put one of his hands on Mamoru's shoulders. "I'd like you to take Mamoru along on your journey. I think you can both learn much from each other."
"But sensei," Mamoru protested. "I thought you were going to teach me how to train my Pokémon better."
Ryu looked sternly at his student's face. "Listen, Mamoru: If you ever want to be a successful gym leader, you should learn to learn things yourself! I can't be there for you all the time, and you won't learn as much from sitting around in this gym as you would by going on a journey. There are some things that Ash still can teach you... On the other hand, there's also much you can teach him. So, go along with him!"
Mamoru lowered his head. "Yes, sensei..."
Sakura jumped up and down in excitement. "Oh, I wanna come too! Can I, Ryu?"
Ryu looked at his other student and shook his head. "Sakura, Mamoru is mainly a Pokémon Trainer... but you came to me to learn the arts from me, right?"
"Right..." the bandana-clad girl moaned in a disappointed voice.
"And remember, your Hitmontop is still able to do the Shunpuu Kyaku much better than you!"
"Aw, did ya have to remind me?" she whined.
Mamoru stepped towards Ash. "Ash, I hope we both will benefit from this journey... and to tell you the truth, I'm looking forward to train some more with you."
Ash nodded. "Okay, then welcome aboard! It's great to have you with us. Right, guys?"
"Of course," Brock smiled. "The more, the merrier," Misty added. Ami just nodded and smiled at him.
When Mamoru looked into Ami's eyes, he frowned.
'Strange,' he thought. 'I feel like I've met this girl somewhere before... but I just can't remember seeing her before in my life...'
"Hey, you ready to go?" Ash asked.
"Um, yes, of course!" Mamoru nodded.
"Great, then let's go!"
"Hope you come again," Sakura shouted and waved.
"Have a safe trip," Ryu nodded.
"Thanks for letting us stay with you," Misty shouted back. "Bye!"
And while the small group was leaving, they didn't notice how they were being watched...
Out of a small alley, a pair of glowing eyes was staring.
A sleek Umbreon came out and looked after the group of trainers. "Mamoru," Luna murmured. "Did I finally find you?"

Somewhere else, in the Orange Archipelago...
A triangle of three small islands, surrounding the bigger island of Shamouti. Those were Fire Island, Lightning Island and Ice Island.
The sea surrounding those three islands was calm, as usual.
Ice Island was the middle one of the three islands. Most of the time, it was covered in ice and snow, except for midsummer.
A statue of a Legendary Bird was situated inside a small crater, standing on a pedestal. In-between the bird's beak was a blue, glowing orb.
In front of that pedestal, a sleek, four-legged Pokémon was resting. It's eyes were closed.
Suddenly, a flash of light appeared in the air above Ice Island. Suicune raised his head.
A small, green Pokémon with big eyes appeared in the light. The light vanished again, and the small Pokémon came flitting down.
"Bi, biiii!"
'Ami!' it's telepathic voice shouted. 'Are you...' Then she stopped and looked down at the dog-like Pokémon.
"Biii?" 'Suicune? What are you doing here? Where's Articuno?'
Suicune snorted. 'When she was on vacation on Seafoam Islands, she called me. She asked me to watch over her island for a while.'
Celebi now sounded very upset. "Bi! Bi, bi, bi! Biiiii!" 'What? How could she? She knows better than to disturb the balance of the elements like this. You might be able to take care of this place instead of her, even if only for a while. But you have your own duties. Just what was it that made her come to this decision?'
Suicune growled. 'She told me it was because she... fell in love!'
"Biiii?" 'In love?' Celebi gasped. 'But... but... she knows better than just to fall in love with any Pokémon. What kind of Pokémon was it anyway? A Pidgeot, perhaps?'
'That's the worst part,' Suicune snapped. 'It was no Pokémon! It was a... human boy! I can imagine she took on human form and followed him into the human civilization.'
Celebi groaned as she slowly floated down to the snow-covered ground. "Biiiiii..."
'And here I thought everything would be fine if the guardians would stay on their islands... I should've never allowed her to visit her birthplace every now and then... Ooooh, what are we going to do now?'
'Nothing,' Suicune grumbled. 'There is no Pokémon law or something that forbids her to fall in love. She has every right to do as she wishes.'
"Bibibibibiiiii! Bi, bi, bi!!" 'But she has a RESPONSIBILITY here... She's the guardian of Ice Island! She can't just leave all of this behind. I could try to find someone else to do the job, but... in that short time? This is a very delicate situation...'
'I know,' Suicune sighed. 'And I only accepted to do this for her under protest. We can only hope that she comes back to her senses in time...'
"Biiii..." 'I really hope Luna finds the others in time...'
'What did you say?' Suicune asked.
"Bi? Bibibi!" 'Me? Oh, I just thought to myself...'
