Professor Tomoe looked sternly at the Pokémon that was floating inside the tank. They had decided to call it 'Mewtwo'. It nearly looked like Mew, but with a few differences: First of all, only its tail was pink, the rest of its body was colored in white. Her (the specimen was a female) hands and feet were kinda knobby, and from her head came several protrusions, two small ones that stuck from her head like ears and another one that clung to her neck like some kind of ring.
He looked at the instruments. The readings showed that her psychic abilities had even grown more in the past few hours. Amazing!
Are we doing the right thing? Tomoe pondered. After all, cloning isn't natural. And by giving such a powerful Pokémon into the hands of Giovanni, who knows what he's going to do with it?
If it was only his life that were in danger, he would gladly give it away to save the world from such insanity. But... this is about Hotaru. He couldn't bear the thought that madman would harm his little daughter...
He stepped in front of the tank.
You're still sleeping in there, he thought. Are your dreams peaceful dreams? Memories of your original, perhaps? Or are they dreams that are telling you of the evil Giovanni is planning to do with you?

Hotaru looked around. She was floating in darkness. Next to her, she could see the pink little shape of her friend.
"Usagi, where are we?"
"Mew! Mewmewmewmew! Mew!" 'I believe that we are in your dreams,' Usagi explained while looking around. 'Normally, a human mind won't experience his or her dreams like you are just now... But I think it may be caused by Mewtwo's powers.'
"And what about you? How are you here?"
'Me? I just decided to keep you company!'
Suddenly, a third floating shape appeared between them. It kinda resembled Usagi, but Hotaru recognized the Pokémon: It was Mewtwo! She had never been in the laboratory before, but her father had shown her several pictures.
'Where... where am I?' Mewtwo asked and looked around in bewilderment. 'What is this place? And...' She looked up and the human and the Mew. 'Who are you?'
Hotaru smiled. "I'm Hotaru, and this is my friend Usagi. She's a Mew!"
"Mew!" 'Nice to meet you, Mewtwo!'
'Mew... two?' the dream image of the clone asked as she looked down at herself. 'Am I... also a Mew?'
"I believe my father created you with science," Hotaru tried to explain. "I know not that much about that stuff, but I think he calls you a 'clone'."
'A... clone...' Mewtwo muttered.
Hotaru leaned forward to have a better look at the young Pokémon. "She looks somewhat like you, Usagi, right? Only a bit smaller."
Usagi floated closer and touched the protrusions on Mewtwo's head. She giggled. 'What are those things? They don't look much like ears to me. More like two little mushrooms...'
Mewtwo frowned. 'Oh yeah? Well, your round ears look like meatballs to me.'
"We have to give you a name," Hotaru suddenly said. "I gave Usagi her name, so you also need one, right?"
'I know!' Usagi giggled. 'We can call her 'Spore', because of those little mushrooms on her head.'
'Why don't we call you 'Meatball Head'?' Mewtwo growled back. She didn't like that ditzy pink Pokémon very much...
Hotaru snapped her fingers. "I know! You are like a small Usagi, so why don't we just call you 'Chibiusa'?"
'If you must...' Mewtwo mumbled back. She wasn't exactly too happy to be named after that Mew...

Over the following days, Chibiusa visited Hotaru's dream world more and more. And even though she and Usagi always squabbled when they met, the three of them developed a deep friendship, even if Chibiusa really was still inside her tank.
Hotaru never told her father about her dreams, because he also might find out about Usagi, who was always turning herself invisible when he or someone else came into her room.
Because of her overdeveloped mind, Chibiusa was a fast learner. Usagi showed Hotaru how to influence the landscape of her dreams, so Hotaru used that to show Chibiusa everything that was waiting for her when she would be coming out of the laboratory.
If she only knew what was in store for them...
