Going from one room to another, and trying not to be seen, he was entirely too aware that he didn't know gadgets worth a darn. There were doohickeys and gizmos, whatchacallits and the like. Most were silent and didn't look too 'gadgety' while some had the blinking lights or vibration or stuff he associated with being more important doohickeys.
One thing finally penetrated though, and he wondered if it was important. Nothing had straight lines. EVERYTHING was curved. No stairs, but they had ramps.
Ranma saw two guards patrolling, but also spotted that each had one of the little discs on them. Nonhuman but apparently victims themselves. Ranma hid, waiting for them to pass, then followed.
At one point they stopped and one stood guard while the other looked over this pillar that had pulsing lights AND occasionally puffed vapor out.
After the two guards left, Ranma stayed behind. He knew what this meant! It did something and the guards had checked it. Therefore this was something important.
Ranma snuck closer but didn't see any controls marked, much less some useful label like [Self-Destruct] or [Press This To Free Prisoners] or [Exit].
"DAMNIT!" growled Ranma.
THWAM!
"Oh heck," said Ranma, seeing where he'd dented the doohickey inward.
CRACKLE! went several large cracks, snaking out from the fist-mark imbedded in the metal.
"This ain't gonna explode is it?" asked Ranma of the heavens, pondering a quick application of the Saotome Secret Technique.
THWUMP! went a section of the gizmo, landing on the floor.
ZIP! went Ranma, finding a place to hide.
SIZZLE went something within the pillar.
