Tomoe Hotaru smiled up at him, shyly. "Ranma-senpai?"
"Mmmmmph, yeah?"
"Mmmmm... are you sure we shouldn't have gone to those 'Chinese Amazons' you told me about, and explained what we're trying to do, first?"
No, no, no, no, he didn't need even more girls following him about, damnit - and especially not 'Shampoo', the girl he'd bouted with. Besides, some of the Joketsuzoku girls (or any other local girls) would develop 'Talents' the minute any little bit of 'Lightwings' power hit them, he just could bet on it - A lot of them seemed to have some kind of potential Talents already, now that he thought about it, so it wouldn't take much to bring that to the fore. Or get hurt right in front of him, so he'd be obliged willy-nilly to heal them, therefore almost guaranteeing that at least half of them would develop some kind of Talent as well as managing to figure out 'Saotome Ranma = Lightwings', that was what almost always happened in that case, and -
"No, no, we don't want to cause any more fuss then we have to, and neither does the local Chinese government. Not to mention the central Chinese goverment."
Ranma sighed, then. His superior had made it quite clear that the Chinese government was in more then two minds about the Japanese branch of AEGIS 'interfering' in their territory at all, and that all and any kinds of additional friction with any arms of the Chinese government was to be severely avoided.
"And anyway, I did go to one of their elders - that 'Cologne' I told you about - and explained at least the gist of it, so she'll keep the rest of the Joketsuzoku from interfering, hopefully..."
Mmmmm. Hotaru groaned. It still seemed better to her to explain to the local people what all this was about, especially since they were the people most near 'ground zero' so to speak, but she could understand why Ranma-senpai had decided on a 'quick in and quick out if at all possible' strategy too. It wasn't like they were even sure the Enemies were actually using the Jusenkyou area as a base, after all...
Besides, if Ranma-senpai thought so, it must be all right. It was Ranma-senpai, after all.
"Oi, Ranma! Son, stop looking at the damn springs and come eat! I don't see you for a while and what do you do but get all picky about your food... You too, Hotaru-chan, come on."
Oi, oi, his father and that appetite of his... Ranma sighed, then. Well, at least his father and Hotaru seemed to get along quite well, surprisingly enough.
He hadn't been all that happy to hear that AEGIS had called his father over on this little expedition, frankly. Oh, his father did know the territory somewhat better then he himself did, probably, but...
His father could be so annoying, sometimes, treating him like a - a kid or something. He was Lightwings, one of the best Gatekeepers in the whole world if he said so himself, and it wasn't like his father didn't know it, either. So why did he keep treating him like he was just -
Just Saotome Ranma or something?
Ranma blinked, and paused. Alright, come on, it was he himself who'd wanted to keep 'Saotome Ranma' and 'Lightwings' as separate as possible, and it had been a good idea, all things considered, so -
OK, OK, enough thinking now, so what if his father was annoying and idiotic and all that, he still was his father after all, and anyway, he really should be eating dinner. Thinking about things on a empty stomach never helped anybody, after all.
Saotome Ranma turned and followed his father and Hotaru.
Meiou Setsuna smiled.
It was time.
