There were fail-safes and protections that were supposed to keep anything like that from happening IF the impossibility of an enemy agent were to have snuck aboard the Factoryship.
The system would have recovered as several backups went into play. It was a ship meant to operate alone for journeys through the stars, find appropriate natural resources, and prepare them. There were multiple redundancies involved and self-repair functions.
The system wasn't doing that because there were multiple intruders on board. As completely impossible as one primitive loose on their ship would be, for there to be more than one was even more unthinkable.
Ranma smashed one gizmo, and when that didn't draw security drones, went on to try and fix other things.
The majority of the system's attention was twenty-four floors down in the big mothership, and seventeen corridors away.
"HAPPO FIRE BURST!"
Happosai was just as skilled as Ranma when it came to avoiding attacks, and was quite formidable when he wanted to be.
"How DARE you turn cuties into not-cuties!" declared the outraged pervert as he unleashed his diminutive but violent wrath upon anything that looked remotely fragile.
He'd lost track of Genma quickly enough, and Soun had been captured and converted. Happosai's opinion of Soun had struck a new low. Emotional paralysis and crying jags were not acceptable when action was called for. This was definitely such an event.
Happosai used his pipe to slice through some sort of security droid, then slice open one of the organic-looking walls in order to put a large firecracker inside. "Wheeee."
As he sped down the corridor, a large explosion marked where the firecracker had gone off. As THAT blast wave hit a few others he'd left behind, Happosai used his martial arts knowledge to ride the blast wave to another section of ship.
