"Hey! Yoo-Hoo!" A short haired girl was waving at them from the street corner. "Are you going to see the Tendo-s, too?" The Saotomes waited until the girl could reach the gate.
"My name's Yuka! Yuka Yamamoto, you know, like the battleship? I was on my way to see Akane. What are your names? I'm sure Akane must have told me about you. She is my best friend; after Sayuri, that is."
"I ain't met her before. Or nobody else in the family," Ranma said.
"You haven't?"
"No, I'm just a fiancé. Knowin' a girl first don't seem to be important."
"Fiancé!?? Oh: An arranged marriage! That's all the rage in Japan, now, you know! Wait until I tell all of the gang that Akane's going to be married!"
"I ain't engaged to Akane! I promised I wouldn't: And a promise is a sacred thing to me!" The teen shot an accusing eyed his father.
"Oh, you're not?" the girl seemed disappointed.
"I don't take other people's girls."
"Oh, then you're going to marry Nabiki!" Yuka brightened up some. "She goes to my school, too!"
"Nabiki? I thought there was three girls in the family?"
"Kasumi! But she's already taken. The Great and Wonderful Dr. Tofu is in love with her!"
"He is?"
"He is! He's the most respected man in town: Genuinely respected."
"Oh... . Well, I certainly don't wanna take his girl, either. Okay, if I hafta be engaged to one, it'll have to be this, what did you say her name was, again?"
"Great! I'll go tell the gang! Bye! Say Hello for me!" she cried, waving behind her on the run.
"Gee. It's like a small typhoon just went by." Ranma turned to his pop. "Why didn't you say anything? You're always the first to run your mouth off!"
"Girls like that frighten me."
