Akane pushed against Tofu's hold on her. Then, when it seemed he wouldn't relent, she pushed harder, until he did let her go.
"You have every right to strike me, Akane. And strike my other self, as well."
"Why should I hurt her? She hasn't betrayed me. She hasn't done anything to me. She... ." Akane glanced out towards the woman, dejected and broken hearted in the yard. She recognized the expression, from the inside. Her gaze was captured by the woman whose only crime was that she couldn't really love men. She found herself stepping off the porch and walking towards the person she had had a crush on for most of her life. Yes, Futaba was Tofu, inside. It was only the outside that separated them.
Tofu could never express his feelings for her. But Futana could. And had. Somebody who wasn't a jerk cared for her, and proved it by actions, not words.
Her anger was cooling, even that she had always felt against herself.
"Why do you punish yourself? The Dr. Tofu I know is tolerant."
Futana looked up, then away, ashamed. She assumed the lotus position, trying to calm herself. "That was something he learned. My feelings about...the subject are, subconscious; learned when I was quite young and vulnerable."
"I can't say I understand; but I understand...here," Akane said, touching her heart.
"We share something mutual...?"
"Yes. Mutual. Maybe. I'm not ready yet to really say." She was already beginning to regret going as far as she had.
"Then there's hope? A wish?" Before Akane could answer, the woman was doing handstands with her legs crossed. These developed into an upside down version of the dance she had been doing before.
"You're making me sorry I talked to you!!" Akane's temper came back. "I said stop it! How can I take you seriously, if..." How does she keep the bottom part of her gi staying in place and not fall below her waist?
