Shinji's new day: Curiosity kills the... Rei? [Episode 176788]

by Shritistrang

Inside the apartment of Misato Katsuragi, which she was sharing with two teenagers and one penguin...

Asuka was in her room, sulking. She was also brooding over her strange behavior earlier... She just had no plausible explanation for why she had acted the way she did...

Penpen was still hiding underneath Misato's bed, hiding all of the beer cans within the apartment.

Misato was sitting in a chair, looked outside and giggled at each pedestrian she saw on the street.

And Shinji... he was still busy reading in his new magical book.

Well, those 'Controlling' spells worked pretty well... it was nice to see how he could make people do as he wished. But, as every Harry Potter fan knows, magic isn't just messing with people's mind... there was more.

And so Shinji was browsing through another chapter of the book, anxious for any spell that was easy to perform, so he could try it out. He didn't realize it, but after using those other spells on Asuka and Misato, a small part of his mind had developed a special fondness for playing pranks... and thus, he slowly turned from a shy boy into a nasty little prankster.

Here, this was something... The transformation of the human body... interesting.

Of course, Shinji wanted to start with something small... Just a tiny little change in someone's appearance or constitution.

Just then, the doorbell rang. Shinji looked up in annoyance. The chapter had just started getting interesting...

As Misato was still busy looking out of the window while giggling, he called: "Asuka... can you answer the door?"

The muffled voice of the redhead answered: "I already told you, I'm not your servant! Why don't you go and do it yourself?"

Grumbling in response, Shinji stood up and walked to the door. Normally, Shinji just would have answered the door without complaining, but the Third Child's new jester personality made him act rebellious... unconsciously, of course.

He opened the door... and looked directly at his fellow pilot and classmate, Rei Ayanami, the First Child.

He blinked. "A... Ayanami?"

"Pilot Ikari," Rei said in her flat voice. "May I enter?"

"Ummm..." Shinji stepped aside. "Sure, come in!"

Rei entered, turned around and waited until Shinji had closed the door.

"Dr. Akagi had asked me to come here and ask Major Katsuragi if... 'everything would be all right', as she said." The blue-haired girl looked at the giggling form of Misato, who didn't seem to notice her, as she was busy laughing at a bird that was sitting outside, on the other side of her window.

"Is the major... sick?" she asked.

"No, no..." Shinji quickly answered. "She just... had a beer too many. In a few hours, she will be perfectly fine. That's probably the reason why Dr. Akagi was worried, I suppose."

"I see... where is pilot Soryu?"

Shinji rolled his eyes. "In her room I suppose, and sulking... Rei... actually, you've come at just the right moment. Do you have some time?"

"I have nothing planned for this evening, if that is what you mean. But what..."

"I'll get to that," Shinji said. "Here, please sit down."

"Pilot Ikari, I think we should really..."

"Please! Just for a moment!"

Rei sighed in defeat and sat down at the table. "There! I'm sitting! Will you now tell me what this is all about?"

"One second, please..." Shinji murmured and opened the book. There, that should be the correct page. Just a small spell, nothing spectacular... a spell to raise a person's charisma. Rei was always so stiff and withdrawn... a little boost of her ego was just the thing she needed.

"Are you done now?"

Shinji closed the book, with his fingers between the pages, and made an assuasive gesture. "In a minute... just relax!"

He re-opened the book and read the instructions. Then he nodded... he just needed to touch his target...

He approached the blue-haired Eva pilot, who was getting more and more confused. "Please, hold still for a moment. Relax! It's just a little experiment."

"Pilot Ikari, what are you doing to meee...?"

He took her hand and murmured the phrase:

"SALANDER MUTANDELS!"

"...eeeow?"

Shinji blinked. That didn't sound quite right.

And why did Rei's hand feel so furry all of a sudden?

Shinji looked up from the book. "Rei?"

"I'm... I'm down here..."

He looked down... and right into the face of a small housecat with light-blue fur...

The same color as Rei's hair...

The cat looked at herself and asked: "Is this... some sort of weird dream?"

"Oh no..." Shinji mumbled. "No, no, no... That's not what I wanted..." He looked at the page he had been reading from... and gasped as he saw what kind of spell it was.

The Salander Mutandels... not a spell to boost a person's charisma... but instead a spell to transform living beings into different creatures.

How could he have made such a mistake?

But then he realized... when he had closed the book briefly (while holding his finger in-between the pages), he had accidentally opened the next page... and, assuming it was still the correct page, read the instructions for the Salander...

"Pilot Ikari, I would like an explanation, please!"

Misato turned around from the window... and her gaze fell on the kitty-fied Rei Ayanami.

"He... hehehe... heeheeheehahahahahahaBWAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAH! Cat got your tongue! Cat got your tongue!"
