"Major, I demand you let me out," Rei's muffled voice came out of the shaking pet crate.
"Rei, I can't let you run to the commander like this," Misato sighed. "Please, try to understand... do you want his scientists to take you apart?"
"Knowing wondergirl, she'd love it..." Asuka grumbled. Misato threw her an angry glare.
"That wasn't funny, Asuka," she scolded while putting on her jacket. "Now you two stay here and wait until I return. And Shinji..." She looked grimly at her male protégé. "No spells, are we clear?"
"Crystal clear," Shinji sighed.
"Good!" The major nodded. "Now, I know I've seen those documents somewhere in the archive... It will surely take me some while to find the right one. But that should help us find the right year, in which those 'alien cats', or whatever they are, have been on Earth. Shinji, prepare everything for the ritual, okay?"
"I hope he doesn't blow us up..." Asuka grumbled.
Shinji ignored her. "Good luck, Misato!"
And then she left.

"Pilot Ikari and Pilot Soryu... I will report this to Commander Ikari, and tell him everything! Get me out of here!"
Asuka groaned. "Oh, quit the hissing, wondercat... Shinji, can't you make her shut up?"
"Would probably the best..." Shinji grumbled. "I can't concentrate with all this racket..."
He finished drawing the pentacle on the ground and reached for his book. But then, he hesitated. "Misato said she didn't want me to use another spell..."
"Ah, forget that!" Asuka shouted. "I can't stand Rei's infernal yowling."
"HIIISSSSSSS! I WARN YOU! I'LL TELL THE COMMANDER!"
Shinji's rebellious side won this battle. "Whatever... I'm sick of this..."
He opened the book and searched for the correct spell.
He then faced Rei. He watched her sternly. "Silentium Silentence - Let there be silence!" He then put his index finger on his lips.
"Pilot Ikari, I'm go..." Suddenly, Rei's voice ended abruptly, and it was quiet. Confused, she moved her mouth, but no sound was made.
Asuka sighed in relief. 'Good riddance...' is what she wanted to say. But, as with Rei, she could not make a single sound.
Shinji watched the redhead as she moved her mouth without any apparent reason. Confused, he wanted to ask her what she was doing. But then, he realized the problem: The spell did not only silence Rei, but also every other person in the room.
He looked it up in the spellbook, which confirmed his guess. With a silent sigh, he showed the paragraph to Asuka.
After reading that, the half-german Eva pilot made a frightening face, pointed at Shinji's neck and made a gesture as if she would wring out a wet cloth.
Shinji gulped.

"Come on, where is that goddamned document?" Misato snarled as she thumbed through the files of the NERV archive.
"Misato?" a voice asked. "What are you still doing here? I thought you went home..."
Startled, Misato jumped up and turned around. "R-Ritsuko! You're still here?"
The head scientist smirked. "That was my question, remember? Did you forget to take some documents home?"
"Um... yeah, just some additional work I want to finish quickly..." Suddenly, one of the file folders slid out of her grasp. "Gah!"
Ristuko picked it up. "Hey, those are from 1998... what are you doing with those old files?"
Quickly, Misato snatched them out of the doctor's hand and laughed nervously. "Noneofyourbusinessgottagobye!" And with supersonic speed, she ran out of the archive.
Ritsuko scratched her head. Sometimes, she really didn't understand her friend...
Her gaze then fell on a piece of paper that was still lying on the floor...
