There were rules of loyalty and honor, after all. A ninja who simply abandoned such things could not be considered to be worthy of honor, as she had a code to live by. On the other hand, that wasn't to say that she couldn't abandon her master, but the thing was that she could not just ignore his authority. To do so would mean that she'd have to forget everything that she'd been taught, and she didn't want to be a runaway.
Being a ninja was what she was, and she'd always felt... proud that her skills had grown to the level they had. For her, her training had given her a sense of accomplishment, to the point where she'd actually looked forward to some of the grueling training sessions. It had felt good to be able to have her effort pay off, and she'd always liked the idea of growing in her skill level all the time. And, to tell the truth, she'd found something of a passion in the concept of being a demon hunter, which was something that she could truly believe in.
She just had to admit that she wasn't certain as to just what form her relationship with her soon-to-be-new master would take, given that she would be both his ninja, and a demonhunter.
This sort of thing was to be expected.
Akane had no illusions about the fickle nature of fate in a slave's life, and she knew that there was nothing that she could do. During her time in the pits, she'd seen plenty of girls being sold off or given away without even seeing the people that they were going to. At first, it had horrified and angered her, but she had grown so used to it that she'd never even bat an eye at the sight of a girl once seen screaming as they took her away coming back as a docile pet dressed in exactly what her owner would want her in.
All the minute concern that she could come up with had to do with the likely behavior of the boy who would own her. He'd probably want to dress her up how he'd want her to, have her fight just for his own benefit, and be screwing her whenever he'd get horny. None of this particularly bothered her. She'd long since grown used to thinking of herself as a piece of property, and naturally did what she was told to by her owner. He could have everything that she could give to him, save for any actual feelings, or her soul. Those were still hers alone, and even if she'd done things that she'd once have held as disturbing, she would keep that last gasp of 'self' that she had, as she didn't have someone other than herself that she'd ever want to entrust them to.
Not that she ever thought that anyone, especially a slave owner, would ever be able to truly touch her spirit.
In the mean time, she'd go along with her current master's desires, and serve this new one completely and well, without reservation or regret. She just wasn't about to try and like him, even if she was going to be willing to be his sex toy at all times. The knowledge that many slave owners were perverts was too ingrained for her to really expect much from him.
It was a world where the tracks of many people's lives crossed in ways that they would have never expected. Their paths in life might take them through what would seem to be a fairly simple and routine existence, or it might drop them into becoming the property of someone else. Things really could change in a flash, and the fact of the matter was that slavery affected everyone's lives.
In other words, people were going to change from who they thought they would be, or who they might have been. For some, it was only a minor little shift, like having a slave, who would be like family, to stock the shelves of their stores instead of a stockboy. For others, it would be a shift being the most popular person in school to basically being a sexually usable drone.
And for the individuals of this world that Ranma might have known in his own universe, that was no different, such as the case with:
