Post Third Impact: Company In Silence? [Episode 178664]

by Kender

No one would have said that Ranma was ever really someone who didn't know how to be serious about sneaking around. If he actually had to, he could manage to get around without being seen pretty easily. It was only when there were outside forces, like the universe's need to put him in an embarrassing situation, that he didn't get to do that. However, he was not the sort of person who would get creeped out by every sound around him, as he could keep a grip on his sense of focus.

That was made his current situation even worse.

Nothing was moving in this state of the world, which should have made it easier to handle this sort of thing. Even a single creak would echo, and he knew that he would know that something was amiss. As a result, he had been relatively sure that he'd detect something coming at him before he'd get something happening to him.

Yet, as he leapt from building to building, following a fairly long street, he started to tense up. It took him a moment to recognize that he was doing it, but he was all too soon coming to the conclusion that there was something to this feeling. After all, he shouldn't have had anything to react to in the first place.

What he did have was the sense of the sound of... something causing him to turn his head a bit as he leapt to a light post to hear a noise that he wasn't sure was there. His eyes narrowed a bit to focus on the odd shadow that he thought he saw passing into an alleyway that he'd passed a little earlier. And he could almost feel the sensation of something moving behind him as he hurried along the asphalt.

When he put it all together, the only thing that he could come up with was that he felt like he was being followed. With each half real glimpse, or partly heard sound, it seemed that there was only one... of whatever it was. Unfortunately, he couldn't be sure that anything really was following him, as looking down the empty street only showed him clothing scattered on sidewalks and doors still left open. Other than that, he couldn't see anything, and he was pretty sure that it was not Aya, as he need only look into a mirror or window to see her.

No, whatever it was, if it wasn't a figment of his imagination, was something new, which could be good, or bad. If it was merely something like an animal living, then it would at least mean that there was something else there other than him. On the flip side though, he didn't know how this 'experiment' thing had worked out, and for all he knew, this could be a very bad situation for him. He did not want to have to deal with horrible mutants, or something like that, but it was entirely possible that he would have to do so. Since he had a distinct lack of high grades in the sciences, he could only guess about what was out there, and the thing was that he could only use movies or comic books as his references.

Realizing that situations like the ones in horror books were all too close to his current one, he pushed those out of his mind, and continued on, while wondering what might be following him, which turned out to be:
