Though Akane would probably laugh at him if she were here, and tell him that it was that way for everybody, he supposed...
"OK, so Mihoshi-san's Wishes can't switch us back right now. Now what?"
Nabiki sighed yet again, though she did seem slightly more happier then she had at first - whatever she'd been able to cram into the Wish this Urashima person had made for her must have really been something. Though the thought of a Nabiki who was going to be ever better at solving problems then before was a wee bit scary, if he was being honest with himself, he supposed...
"Yep, well, about that - well, I have good news and bad news about that one, I suppose. The good news is, the Wish-web thing as you called it isn't going to keep you stuck to the world you're in now for ever, as far as I can tell. Ditto for Shinji-kun. - The bad news, on the other hand..."
Nabiki sighed, rubbing her temple. "Is, well, when. Which is a real kicker. I'm sorry, Ranma - I don't think there's any way we can safely get you home before that entire mess with the so-called Third Impact is - over, for better or for worse. Not without risking both worlds going boom or worse, that is..."
"But, but, but..." Ranma sighed, defeated. He'd thought that might be the case, somehow...
"And it seems like Shinji-kun, on his side, isn't going to be able to go back till, well, a probably a little after you at the earliest, actually. Part of point of switching you two at all was so you could do stuff the other couldn't, really, it seems, so..."
Ranma blinked a couple of times at that. Well OK, he could see him doing stuff that Shinji couldn't, he'd done quite a bit of that already in the world he was in now in fact, but...
"Um...there's something that Shinji can do that I can't?"
Nabiki looked at him, giving Ranma the old Oh-You-Are-Dumb-Sometimes Look. "Oh, he can play the cello, for one thing. And probably get better grades then you, too. And..."
Ranma googled. Well, OK, that was probably true, just - it was just that he couldn't for the life of him imagine how that would be relevant at all with Shinji stuck in something like his life, actually...
And Nabiki was looking at him, again, sighing in that familiar way.
- Oh, well, it was probably one of those things he'd never get in a 1000 years he supposed...
"Well, OK, then - I can't go back to that Third Impact crap is over and done, Shinji can't go back till, um -"
"Till whatever that's supposed to happen happens or whatever, yeah." Nabiki murmured. "And it'll be better all around if you both switched back at the same time instead of separately, in my opinion. Less hassles all around."
"OK, I get that. But - um, Nabiki, would Shinji really wanna go back at all? I mean..."
"Oh, yeah, that." Nabiki muttered, starting to pace again. "Well, let's say, according to what I know and what I've analyzed now - the chances are very, very high that he's going to be pulled back anyway, sooner or later, once the Wish-web isn't holding him to our world anymore. His ties with his world are - strong, and - "
"Mmmmmm." Ranma muttered. "So - it's gonna be up to me to make sure he doesn't haveta go back to a world filled with Red Goo, is that what you mean?"
"Well actually, Ranma - " Nabiki coughed. "As I see things now - 'Red Goo' is not exactly the worst way things could turn out, if you get my meaning. There could be worse, you know. Like a totally dead planet Earth. Or a totally gone planet Earth. Or..."
Ranma groaned. He hadn't thought there could be anything worse then everything ending up being Red Goo in the Eva-world - he just hadn't thought about it enough, obviously...
But Nabiki, on the other hand, had obviously thought about the entire situation. A lot.
Hmmmm....
