Captain Kirk nodded, and leaned forward at his seat. "Put it on the screen."
"Aye, aye, sir."
"Looks like we're going to be getting to see what we'll have to deal with."
"Should be interesting," McCoy drawled, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Why would you say so, doctor?" Spock asked, raising a brow. "Have you ever seen one of these ships before?"
"No, but since the rest of this trip's been so... different, I don't see how this will be all that boring either."
"Much as I disagree with your emotion based determination, I can find no fault in your logic."
"You know, that sounded like a compliment, Spock."
"I assure you that it is."
"Gee, I might get goosebumps from your outpouring of approval," teased the doctor.
"If I may interrupt the mutual admiration society, gentleman," a bemused Kirk put in, "we have a ship to see."
"Understood..." his half-Vulcan officer answered, and raised both brows in as much of a show of surprise as his upbringing would allow.
"Now, would you look at that," Bones murmured, giving a low whistle.
"You may say that again, doctor."
"Don't think that I have to."
That sentiment was something that the captain found that he could agree with. After the blur of changing magnifications passed by, he saw a ship on the main viewscreen. Not that it was all that wrong a description, as the yacht really was a ship, as in an ocean going vessel. It was much longer than it was wide, with a gently sloping bottom that even had a keel. The top half was sealed up, like someone had taken an ocean going craft and turned it into a spacefaring one. However, it was obvious that this ship had been built to be like this, as there were no signs of such retrofitting. Rather, even the fact that there seemed to be two nacelles rather than propellers seemed to fit right in with the craft.
For a man who captained a vessel with a saucer section and two nacelles on struts, it was not exactly a familiar sight. "Okay, this is new."
"Fascinating. It does appear to have a fundamentally different design concept than the one that we use," Spock commented.
"In other words, they sent us a boat. A space boat," McCoy said.
"I believe that one would call properly call it a 'ship', not a 'boat'...."
"Then someone's being a bit literal with that title when they made it, don't you think?"
"That presupposes that the designers of that vessel were actually keeping such craft in mind."
"Could you see it be otherwise?"
Spock merely tilted his head slightly. "Would you have thought that the ship from Naireema should look like?"
"I don't know, to be honest. For all I know, it could have been a flying saucer."
"Actually, the people from Naireema IIIA are the ones with the saucers, Doctor," Sulu admitted with a glance over his shoulder.
Kirk, McCoy and Spock merely looked at him, as it was clear that making another comment would be inviting yet another revelation that they'd need time to prepare for.
"It does look like a bird," Ranma muttered to himself.
Hotaru gave a small nod as she looked at the image on the screen. "Kind of silly looking, if you think about it in one way."
"Well, I guess that someone really has taken that old bit of story to heart when they made that ship."
"Oh?"
"They really must've liked the 'Great Bird of the Galaxy' story," he told her, slowly shaking his head.
Kodachi held her hands still on her lap as she sat without causing a wrinkle in her kimono. "My brother has done what?"
"Taken the family yacht out to catch up to the Tendo sisters, who are trying to catch up to the Saotome family yacht," S'nya told her mistress, knowing that it was best to lay out the facts clearly, as they would get mangled enough by a Kuno mind without help.
"Did he have a reason for such foolishness?"
"I believe that his aim was to prevent Akane Tendo from being added to Saotome's service."
"Ah, yes, she is a retainer, after all," the clan princess sighed. "Just what my dearly dimwitted brother sees in that servant girl, I do not know. To tell the truth though, I would leave him to his pursuit of her, as it would keep him out of other troubles. However...."
"Yes?"
"We will have to be dealing with him ourselves. It would be simply bad for the family if my dear brother were to cause an interstellar incident, after all. And I could see my darling Ranma again...."
The kunoichi tried not to groan, as she had been afraid that she would hear that decision, while:
