The Coyote, for his part, merely looked nervous and held his cell phone next to his head. That he was answering it with the same flipping signs as he answered her own questions was duly noted.
Finally he finished the call and held out a sign that read [An Explanation Is Forthcoming]
"It better be," said Doctor Mizuno.
The recently arrived and befuddled Ami merely nodded. She also wondered when her mother was going to change out of the cheerleader costume.
ding dong
"We have a doorbell?" asked Ami.
"I thought it was broken," replied Doctor Mizuno, not sure she wanted to see who this was. When she opened the door, she nodded. Par for the night it was.
"HELLOOOOOOO DOCTOR," said the two male whatever-they-were.
"Hmmmmm," said the female whatever-she-was, sizing up the girl in the Sailor costume. "Okay. It's not really you, you know. Maybe something less cheerleaderish would look better."
"You have explanations?" asked the Doctor. "Come in."
"Hello, Ami," said the taller of the whatevers. "I'm Yakko, this is Wakko, and this is Dot."
"I'm the cute one," said Dot.
"Isn't it my turn to be the cute one?" asked Wakko.
"This is Japan, they have a whole subculture and focus on the factor of cuteness," said Dot. "Maybe next time."
"Awwwww, I never get to be the cute one," said Wakko, looking like he was sulking.
"Coyote, my man," said Yakko, exchanging a complex series of handshakes and knuckle-bumps with the Coyote. The difference being that when it was all done, the Coyote's arms had somehow twisted themselves into a bow knot. "You tried, my man, but you're just not as appreciative of little details as you should be."
[Those DO seem to get me in the end.] agreed the Coyote's sign, being held in his teeth as he tried to untie his arms.
"So, explanations?" asked Doctor Mizuno.
ZIP!
Doctor Mizuno blinked as all three whatever-they-were now were wearing labcoats and glasses, and had pulled a big whiteboard and stand out of somewhere.
"We'd do a musical number on this, but then we'd run over on the episode," said Dot apologetically.
"Where should we start?" asked Wakko.
"How about the beginning?" suggested Ami.
"In the beginning, you had 13-D Brane space," said Yakko in his best professorial manner. "Into which a bubble formed. Rather like bubbles appearing in water when you bring it to a boil. This bubble was 3-D space, and we know it today as the Big Bang."
Doctor Mizuno hung her head briefly.
"Maybe not quite that early," suggested Ami.
"Oh, okay," said Yakko, flipping pages. "Around two-hundred fifty thousand years ago, in this little backwater section of the galaxy, there was this little thing called the Sailor Wars."
"Are you sure of that?" asked the Doctor. Archaeology wasn't her field of study, but the idea that Von Daniken was right was something of a concern.
"Yes, though accounts vary," said Wakko, pointing to pictures in a My Little Senshi Coloring Book.
"People are always getting proportion wrong," said Dot. "Maybe it's a cultural thing, or language difficulties, or just inconsistent source materials."
"In any case, some refugees from these wars settled on the moon," said Yakko.
