His son had come to him at last - and what a mouthy brat he had turned out to be, too. Not to mention that he looked more like 16 or 17 then the age he was supposed to be, 14, that is. Well, his Aunt and Uncle had mentioned a growth sprout, now that he thought about it, but...
Oh, well, at least he'd got up into that Eva without any extra...prompting. And he'd managed to make a more then decent showing once he'd gotten in there, too. That was good, at least.
It was.
...Right?
"...Gendo."
Gendo blinked, noticing his Second-in-command was looking at him, and had been for a while, from the way he was grimacing faintly.
"...Are you all right?"
My son turns out to be a mouthy stupid-looking thinks-with-his-muscles type brat who resembles neither me or his mother whatsoever as far as I can tell, and yes, it looks like he can fight in an Eva. Isn't that nice?
"I'm all right..."
Except for the dreams. In which a boy walks away from him, never looking back. The boy who looks like him when he was a thin wimpy-looking teenager, except for Yui's eyes...
And Gendo watches his back, getting smaller and smaller. Because in the dreams, he knows.
"You don't look all right..."
And it's not like the elder man was his teacher any more, either. Gendo sighed.
"Really. I'm all right."
Fuyutsuki drew back with a frown. Gendo sighed, yet again.
Because in the dreams, he knows. He knows why this boy is not here, while the Other is.
Gendo groaned softly. Fuyutsuki wasn't going all protective mode on him again, was he? Oh, well...
( - I was dreaming of some real-life version of Shinji from 'Shinji 1/2', except that he was somehow supposed to be my son instead of Ranma, alright? And if that doesn't sound crazy enough...)
"I was wondering what to do about...Ranma, actually."
Gendo murmured. Hey, it wasn't even quite a lie, after all...
The slight figure disappears into the hills. And he watches, pulling the emptiness around him like a cloak. Cold, space, determination of cold iron and obsidian -
Because in dreams, he knows. He knows.
So this is the way You wish the Game to be played, is it now?
Ranma sneezed. Misato chuckled, while Pen-Pen actually rolled it's eyes. Ranma blinked. There was something about that penguin...
"Ha, ha... Somebody's talking about you, are they now?"
" - 'Pops' and his cronies, probably." Ranma grumbled.
"Oh, probably - you did mouth off to him something awful yesterday, you know. Though you did do a good job in that Eva - even Ritsuko - Dr Akagi - said so, and that really is something..."
Ranma blinked. So - just what was he supposed to have done now, yesterday?
"Ew. Do I have to do those physicals again?"
"At least once a month, and every time you get in a Eva, I'm afraid... Come on, buck up, it wasn't that bad, was it?"
Misato snickered. Ranma sighed. Figures.
Hmmm...and here was a nice wall...
Misato blinked as Ranma jumped up on one of the walls in the park.
"Wow, you do have good reflexes... I was wondering if I was imagining things, but you really did halfway carry me when you pushed me into that train, didn't you?"
Ranma blinked. OK, if that was all he was supposed to have done...
"I'm pretty good at that kind of thing, if I say so myself?"
"Good for you. ...I can't imagine your father jumping on walls, though..."
Ranma blinked at the images. No, he couldn't imagine Ikari Gendo jumping on walls, either...
"It's about as likely as say, your father in a tutu, actually..."
Ranma nearly fell off the wall. Ikari Gendo in a tutu. Good grief.
"Misato-saaaan...
Misato sniggered. "It's just, you know, sometimes -" Commander Ikari could be a pain to work under, sometimes, and... well, having a good imagination helped, really.
With all kinds of things.
" -I think I have to go bleach my brain, now..."
"Sorry, sorry, sorry..."
