But the fact that he was mobile did present some challenges, as they could simply not count on only one defender, or imprison him, as both could lead to their own problems. Just the possibility of him being separated from his protectors, no matter how many there were, could lead to more time wasted in finding him than was acceptable.
Yet, if he could call them to him, then he'd be able to do a lot better. The idea was that if they had a system that would allow him to call upon those that he was close to, then he could have instantaneous assistance, no matter what would happen. Such a system would allow for plenty of flexibility, as not all situations were the same. He might be held in a volcano research station, in an underwater farm, or someplace else, but they wouldn't know which one would be the chosen spot until it would actually happen. This would let the one that he'd need for the job being able to come to him. Just calling upon Rush would allow him to have a fast way out of a bad situation, while he could also have a time when he'd be able to call upon an animal shaped combat mecha that could literally eat opponents. If he could /combine/ with his friends, then he'd have a defense that wouldn't be separated from him. Even that could adapt to changing situations, as he could get firepower to clear a path, and then switch to get the speed to take advantage of it. This wouldn't be such a big help at the moment, given that he was but a child, but if what they thought was right, he'd need to have protection that could reach him even if things went as expected.
Of course, the possibility that this might give them a link to him even if he went back to where he came from was a bonus that they weren't about to dismiss.
So, the decision was made to connect Ranma to his friends, and those who would become his friends, in a way that they might not have expected. No one was planning on removing what made him human, so heavy implantation of anything was not welcome. But there were ways to do it that would work, and they aimed to take advantage of the ones that would do the best.
Besides, trying to do it in ways that took more work and effort was actually interesting for computers that hadn't had a chance to do much for so long that /anything/ might have been appealing.
With a plan in place, they started working on it, while:
