Ukyo Kuonji. Her family specialized in the restaurant business for six generations. Instead of an okonomiyaki cart though, her family actually maintained restaurants. Starting with hot pots, beef bowls, and similar foods. Expanding as tastes expanded. Maintaining martial arts as a secondary focus.
Ukyo Kuonji's family had been using Ice Runes for four generations. While most of their foods were served bubbling hot, the Ice Rune was quite useful in maintaining refrigeration before the development of mechanical refrigeration. Fresher ingredients meant better taste meant more customers. When ice cream made its way to Japan, the Kuonji family embraced this new specialty item.
In the Reconstruction Era, things changed again. It was in style that restaurants just had one or two specialty items, not a range.
So the family Kuonji had followed that, but instead of okonomiyaki it was robatayaki (Japanese barbeque) and the Ice Rune was eventually replaced by the use of the Flame Rune by about half of the family.
Ukyo Kuonji bore the Flame Rune on her right hand. The typical Fire Rune was mainly something used for combat, the Flame Rune on the other hand focussed on the utility of flame and conferred some resistance to heat and flame to those who bore it.
She had never run across Ranma Saotome, and while a little tomboyish in some respects, had grown up without any crossdressing and was the heir to her family run business.
That didn't mean she wasn't capable of running across odd situations, such as when the bus she was on was suddenly being comandeered.
"NOBODY MOVE!" said someone wielding a gun. "Just keep your seats and nobody has to get hurt. You, driver! Follow that other bus!"
Ukyo blinked, for a moment thinking this was something staged for the tourists. She was here for a seminar at a specialty foods composium, dealing with breaking trends in international markets, and wasn't prepared for a floorshow.
Just in case though, she began easing together the energy for a 'Flame Jet'.
Kodachi wondered about a great many things, her Sight Rune having already told her many things about both this boy and his father.
However the boy was also delightful in his tales of exotic locations and training in the martial arts.
