Post Third Impact: Better Part Of Valor [Episode 185108]

by Kender

Being stupid had never been in Ranma's bag of tricks. Despite what some people might have said, he wasn't an idiot, and he wasn't suicidal. He certainly had trouble with book knowledge, and could get into plenty of trouble on interpersonal matters, but when he was given a fight to deal with, he was one of the best in thinking on his feet. Years of training had turned his mind into a keen combat machine, and he not only knew how to make the best of what he had, but could figure out his opponent's moves.

At the moment, none of that particularly mattered. What he knew of this 'opponent' was damn little, and what information that he did have about her was already bad enough. It also meant that he couldn't exactly fight her as he had done with others, given that all that she had to do was to touch him to turn him into the consistency of warm jello. Since that was something that he was trying to avoid, it didn't seem to be in his best interest to get in reaching distance.

Given that fact, and that he had /no/ idea just /how/ he could fight her, he had little to work with. Staying solid long enough to use what he would learn about her to his advantage was a big goal for him, and as getting too close to her would lower the possibility of that, he had only one choice. And in this instance, he had no qualms about using it.

He ran like a horde of felines was on his tail, yelping as he twisted about to do so.

This wasn't simply a retreat though, as he truly was executing the 'Saotome Secret Maneuver'. Fighting that admittedly pretty incarnation of death was not a viable choice at the moment, but he'd possibly have to face off with her in the future. Having some idea of how to manage that would help, and he knew that he would have to come up with some theories would be a good idea.

However, as he was a little busy running so hard that his lungs felt like they were on fire, he didn't have the time to manage to give it some real consideration. Instead, images popped into his head as he leapt from a fence post to a building ledge to a stall, and so on. He could see himself dropping a log onto her, zapping her with power lines, or setting off a gas explosion in an enclosed space. Unfortunately he had no idea if any of them, or the other possibilities that came up would actually work. If they did, then so much the better, as that would seriously help them.

On the other hand, if they /didn't/ work, then he was in some serious trouble, and his face twisted with the emotions that he felt as he considered what would happen then. To truly deal with her, he was going to have to find more information than he already had. It was one thing to know that she was dangerous, but it was quite another to know how that came to be, or what he could do about it.

Slowing down once the silence rose and the adrenaline slipped away, he slid to a stop, and went immediately alert. Staying both as still as he could manage, and as ready as he could be, he turned his senses towards the area around him. He searched for any sign that he was still in danger, as he had no idea just how fast a spectre of mortality could actually move.

Once he started to figure out what was around him, he realized that he was:
