In the districts of Tokyo, a sort of area specialization took place. Furinkan was an area where gangs and fights took place.
Furinkan was known as an area where the fighters were tough, not particularly bright, but always ready for a rumble. Which made someone hailing from Furinkan a point of interest in gladiatorial arenas, street fights, and the like.
On finding that Ranma had been enrolled in Furinkan High School (aka Furinkan Correctional Academy), Genma did not object. Well, not too much. Martial arts training was guaranteed to occur at a school where the teachers were guaranteed health and disability insurance and practically all the faculty carried a weapon of some kind.
Ranma had an objection though. If Konoka was to be kept safe, Furinkan did not seem a particularly appropriate choice. Setsuna agreed with him, then immediately began trying to find the problem as she WAS agreeing with Ranma.
Having a yojimbo, or bodyguard of some sort, was perfectly normal for those who were noncombatants in Furinkan. THAT part was no problem, and certainly it made sense for someone studying medicine to spend time in the area as one got to see all sorts of injuries.
The buildings (all five of them) had the sort of greyish slab looks of a prison.
"Oh come on, Secchan, it'll be fun," said Konoka, her voice cracking ever so slightly as she shook.
"Chalk outlines," said Setsuna, seeing some older ones and some faded ones. On the street, on the sidewalk, on WALLS.
One of the things about Furinkan HS was that one normally didn't enroll there. One was sentenced to Furinkan.
"Hey, pretty girls," said a boy who'd been lounging against a wall. "Wanna lose the old man and this punk and join MY gang? We'll protect you. Not safe to not be part of a gang."
Konoka began trying to hide behind Setsuna.
Ranma snorted. "That switchblade supposed to make you a fighter?"
"Name's Hiroshi," said the boy, still walking forward. "This's Daisuke. We're rated 83rd among the top fighters. Better stay out of our-"
"Name's Ranma Saotome," said Ranma, "the gal who just put put a kunai up against your throat is Kaede."
"These guys are 83rd?" asked Setsuna. "For a little while I was actually worried."
"They're here on a Sunday, maybe the really tough ones show up on a school day," said Ranma hopefully.
"You haven't beaten us," said Daisuke, pulling out a weapon.

Setsuna took her hand away from her now-sheathed sword.
Daisuke looked down at where his gun's barrel was split. "Okayyyyyyyyyyyyy."
"I take it yer girlfriends are the fighters here?" asked Ranma, nodding towards the four girls watching nearby.
"Well, you're gonna force us to take you seriously," said Hiroshi, trying to ignore the throwing knife point against his throat.
"He ain't worth the effort," Ranma advised Kaede.
Kaede nodded and tapped the boy in the back in the head. He folded.
