"Uhm, yeah, I guess. I gotta get home, though..." Ranma wasn't sure who was more dangerous, that gal on the helicopter he'd just left or this one.
"Home in Japan?" asked Ayako. "Well, then, we'll just have to see about getting you a flight there. Say, in exchange for an exclusive interview?"
"Oh," said Ranma. "I guess."
"Good, good," said Ayako, somehow reminding Ranma of Nabiki when she was after prey. "Let's begin with the basics, shall we?"
The cameraman didn't understand Japanese, but that wasn't necessary. He understood the hand signals and his job.
Already the various news departments were at work:
"PERVERT ALIENS INVADE NEW JERSEY!" read one newsreader. "Exclusive shots of Intrepid Reporter defending herself against Pervert Alien!"
"CHANNEL 4 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH JAPANESE SUPERHERO!" countered an ad. "TOMORROW AT 8:00"
"REPORTER DEALING WITH TRAUMA OF EXTRATERRESTRIAL CONTACT!" claimed another story.
"ALIEN TWO HEADED ELVIS CLONE BABY!" read another newspaper headline. Not that this had anything to do with Ranma.
"So, Mister Saotome, tell the viewers how you came to fall to Earth like that."
"Well, it was another lame plot to kill me. I saw Tatewaki Kuno there for sure. Can't miss that bird's nest haircut of his."
Ayako held up a hand. "Just a moment. This 'Tatewaki Kuno' is trying to kill you?"
"Yeah, most times he just tries to beat me, sometimes he tries to kill me," said Ranma, waving it off. "This time it was on that spaceship launch in Japan. He had to have been the one that got me in there, none of the others got them kinda connections."
"Why is he trying to kill you?" asked Ayako, wondering if the boy she was interviewing had done something Evil.
"He's a deranged loon who lives in some feudal samurai drama as far as he's concerned," griped Ranma. "Always going on like he thinks he's Miyamoto Musashi or something. Except he's just plain lame. He's okay at kendo, and his family's got more lots more money than they got sanity. If ya know what I mean."
"Actually, I think I know the sort," confided Ayako. "Has sufficient money that he thinks he's above the law?"
"Yeah, that's about right," agreed Ranma. "Anyway, it was him and I thought I saw Mousse and maybe Ryoga. One of 'em certainly hit like Ryoga, but I thought Ryoga was mainly off with Akari nowadays and not so ticked off at me anymore."
"So you fell to Earth because this Kuno person launched you," said Ayako. "Wait one moment. Could that have been the Quantum Ring Starcraft launched from outside Tokyo?"
"Yeah, I heard something about a kuan-tuhm ring on that thingie," agreed Ranma. "That was before all the funny colors and crashing on that planet."
"Really, that explains the weight difference the scientists were complaining about," said Ayako, not being from Nerima and quite capable of putting two and two together into something approximating four. "So how did you get back?"
"I'm not sure, that ship crashed near the city and I didn't see anyone there," said Ranma, pausing when he saw that light in the reporter's eyes going again.
