Great Will - Pantheon: High School? [Episode 186435]

by Kestral

Ranma, son of Genma and Sif. Genma was a superior martial artist. Sif was the goddess of battle-skill. His half brother Ullr, was god of archery.

It was inevitable that someone associated with the pantheon should eventually have talent in MAKING weapons. So it was with Ranma, learning how to bind chi and magic and the various arts associated with a form of alchemy taught him by a dwarf named Durin.

"Needs more salt."

Genma blinked as salt was added. "I thought you were making a 'Celestial Ribbon'."

"Nah. That's done, it's over next to the 'Purification Sword'," said Ranma.

"Oh?" Genma blinked and checked. "That's an awfully big sword."

"Yeah, kinda," said Ranma.

"So what's that?" Genma asked, thinking of powerful weapons and armor. Perfecting one's skills was the cornerstone of martial artistry after all. It also kept Sif from hunting down her son's father and chasing him around Japan, it even kept the big guy with the hammer from trying to pound Genma for sleeping with his wife. Honestly, what was up with these Aesir anyway? Hadn't they agreed to this before hand?

"Lunch," said Ranma.

"Lunch?" asked Genma. "Boy, food isn't that important! Err. Waitaminute. That just didn't sound right for some reason."

"Gotta eat too, old man," said Ranma.

"Why so much?" asked Genma, thinking that the cauldron looked to be fairly big for just making soup.

"Magni and Modi are coming by," said Ranma.

Genma considered what he knew of the two. "Are you sure that's going to be enough?"

"Probably not," agreed Ranma. "So what's up with this school stuff?"

"It's a High School for -" Genma's voice trailed off as he considered the delicate way to put it. After all, he wouldn't want to say something indelicate and have it turn out someone capable of throwing lightning or fire was listening in on this conversation. "- special needs students."

Ranma stopped stirring the pot. "Look, if it's about Nambura's automon - I had NOTHING to do with that. I was cleared by the truthseers. I can't help it if Hephaestus' son felt he had to outdo me. I get along with Hephaestus for that matter - it's his son that can't stand me and is constantly trying to outdo me."

"That isn't it," said Genma.

"You KNOW I had nothing to do with Loki's kid," tried Ranma. "His old man is trouble, and Kris is worse. I don't know HOW the little firebug got ahold of my plasma welder."

"That isn't it either," said Genma.

"Now if it's about me and that tomboy," started Ranma.

"That's not it either," said Genma. "Or maybe it is, cumulative. They've started a school for kids with powers and abilities beyond the reach of normal kids. Demigods, sorcerers, dragons, well maybe not dragons, superpowered mutants, and so on."

"Huh," said Ranma, back to stirring the pot.

"Your mother thinks it's a good idea," said Genma, revealing why he was going along with it.

Ranma winced. "Okay. So what's the catch?"

"Catch?" asked Genma, attempting innocence.

"Yeah, with this buildup I know something's worse about this situation," said Ranma.

"Well, your mother DID mention one little thing," admitted Genma. "It's just that-"
