That much she understood well enough.
She also understood what Ami had been saying about this not being a world where Sailor Senshi-style magic worked. She understood further that things wouldn't necessarily be the same as in another world.
She most definitely understood that she was standing in the middle of a street, and an onrushing crowd was about to trample her into the pavement. "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"
GRAB!
It took her a few seconds to realize that she was not being trampled. It took a major effort for her to remove the hands from in front of her face and realize that she was being held. "Huh?"
"Hey, Hotaru, you okay?"
"SEMPAI!" (MAJOR GLOMP!)
"Whoa, hey, what's wrong? Why were you just standing there?"
"Sempai, don't ever get erased from reality again!"
"Y'know, Hotaru, sometimes I just don't understand a thing of what you're saying," said Ranma. "Now we've got to get to our classes, don't we?"
"Our classes? Sempai?" Hotaru blinked.
"Yes, our classes," said Ranma, trying to gently break the latching-on the young girl had performed.
Hotaru blinked again as she glanced down and determined that she was wearing a school uniform. Hadn't Ami said they didn't exist in this world? So how did this happen?
"Come on, the bell's gonna ring at any moment," said Ranma, sweeping her up and leaping from building to building in a high speed blur.
Hotaru was still trying to figure this out, and keep from glomping her sempai, so she focussed on the clothing her sempai was wearing. Which was:
