McCoy raised his brows at the captain. "And that is...."
"We hail them."
"The Klingons leave, and we stick around for a chat. Interesting way that things have turned out."
"Considering how we're probably going to have to deal with them anyway, we might as well do it now," the captain replied, glancing over at the doctor. "And we're supposed to talk things out, right?"
"That is one of our directives. And there is no logical reason for us to ignore their presence when we do not know what it is that is coming in our direction," Spock put in.
"Gang up on me. Go ahead. But I didn't mean that it was a bad idea," McCoy muttered.
"Then why make the comment, doctor?"
"Simple. I don't know about you, but I don't remember hearing about Klingons who leave us to do our work."
"That does have a ring of truth."
"Then let's see if they had a reason to leave. Uhura, hail the new ship," Kirk ordered.
"Aye aye, sir," the communications officer responded, pressing keys on her console with an easy grace.
That movement was counteracted by the voice heard over the communications system. "Misterrrr Alien!"
"Oh no...." whimpered Ensign Hibiki as he slouched down low at his console. "We'd better hide."
"Is it that bad?" asked the doctor.
"Worse. We've got to get out of here...."
"What? Are they going to attack? Or are they carrying something that we should watch out for?"
"Yeah. Her."
One of Spock's brows rose up at the young officer. "It seems illogical to worry about one female."
"You don't know this one."
"And you do?"
"I should."
"And she's from...." Kirk trailed off.
"Mejere."
"That... doesn't help much."
Uhura turned in her seat and glanced over at the other bridge crew. "I have heard of that planet. It's part of a binary planet system, and it only has women on it."
"Only women?"
"Sounds like an interesting place to vacation," quipped McCoy.
"I don't know about that," the communications officer answered. "But until recently, they were supposed to be having some sort of problems with the other half of their system, a planet called 'Tarak', which is full of men."
"Okay.... Interesting set up. Seems to be a bit odd, don't you think?"
"You don't know the half of it. Those women can be so weird sometimes, and that one.... She's totally strange!"
The doctor looked at no one in particular. "Romantic issues?"
"Probably," the captain agreed.
"Under the circumstances, we likely need only to match the ships in the registry to get a full confirmation," Spock put in.
"Which we have," Sulu commented, looking over the readouts as he worked at his controls. "The general design and sleek lines are within the specifications that we have of their ships."
"Oh great," groaned Hibiki.
"Are you there, Mister Alien?!" called out the voice again, and this time it was accompanied by the image of a pretty and perky redhead who bounced in more ways than one on the screen, while:
