Ranma OWED one of the school authorities, who had managed to pull his butt literally out of the fire. That "Lightning Axe" attack had covered enough ground he hadn't been able to avoid it and it had done some severe injury to him. He'd fought tough opponents before, but with Evangline going full out (to respect his dedication to the Art she had said) it had become rather obvious that magic and the ability to fly had been BIG advantages.
At least he thought he had fought strong opponents before. He had trouble remembering it, just like he was sure he knew Hotaru but couldn't remember the details. Some sort of ninja-duck and a sumo pig? Or had it been a panda? Fighting animals in the wild to increase your strength didn't sound so odd, all things considered, but he had the feeling he was still missing a few things.
There were a lot of strong girls, and some strange ones, throughout the campus.
Oh well, there was a Mahora-Fest coming up - and a big martial arts tournament he'd already signed up for. That should get the best fighters out where he could see them.
"So is that your 'partner'?" asked someone from the shadows.
"EEEP!" went Hotaru as she hadn't noticed them there.
The figure moved slightly, revealing a very short young-looking girl. "Better formalize that contract before he gets himself killed."
"Ranma-sempai? Killed?" asked Hotaru.
"Tch. So much like Miyazaki," said the little girl. "Yes, killed. Things are going to get messy soon, and that boya relies on a single Art."
"You know Ranma-sempai?" asked Hotaru.
"We've fought," said the foreigner. "I beat him once, and had to fight him harder the next two times just to discourage him. He's got some talent, but up against what he'll be facing - it's no match. Oh, and as for your magical training. I'm not doing it, so lose that thought right now."
"I wasn't even considering it," said Hotaru, honestly and a little confused.
"Good, I wanted that established at the beginning," said the girl, turning and walking away.
Hotaru watched the little girl meet up with a taller girl with odd ear ornaments and wondered exactly what was going on.
"Saotome is in danger, master?" asked Chachamaru.
"Not that I know of," said Evangeline. "However, with that boyo learning about magic and trying to power up so he could beat me, what do you think he was likely to do?"
Chachamaru considered the possibilities, then nodded. "Find a teacher of magic for himself or seek some manner of enhancement that would allow him to reach you while you're flying, or some defense against magic."
"Right," said Evangeline with a nod. "And I sure as heck don't want him trying to 'pactio' with me or get me as his sensei. That would be too annoying for words."
"I see," said Chachamaru.
"Besides, this might be amusing," said Evangeline.
"Have you found them?" asked Takamichi.
The woman sighed. "Yes. It's not good though. The time between the bubble and our world isn't the same, and it looks like these two came through last night around 9pm for the first and 11:30 for the second. From what I was able to determine, one was only a few steps behind the other as they exited and they immediately went hostile on the perceived disappearance of the other."
"That could be messy, last night was a full moon," said the Dean with a frown. "What happened to them?"
"It was difficult to track them, there were some disturbances in magical fields associated with that bubble," said the woman, pushing her glasses back along her nose.
"Yes, it's been throwing magic off," said the Dean. "Trying to light a candle with a touch of flame and you can end up with a fireball going off. It's because of the decay of the bubble."
"Right," agreed the woman. "They can't access the magic they're used to, where our own magic becomes unpredictably charged."
"So what DID happen to them?" asked Takamichi, somehow talking while slurping cup-ramen without making a mess.
The woman sighed. "It was difficult to find them, but they're-"
