"Because that's what everyone expects, and after Lordlake I want to see more of the country as it actually is," said Faroush. The Ranma part of him was just plain wanting to get away from all the "your highnesses" and what he considered to be utter garbage of being some la-di-da royalty.
Ferid, oddly enough, had a somewhat wolfish grin as he regarded his son from his position leaning against a wall. "I know why you're doing this. Since it's just family here, you can talk."
"Yeah well, maybe I do have other reasons for doing it this way," said Faroush.
"I understand," said Ferid, before bowing to his wife the Queen. "Your son is going to spy on the populace."
"They love their Queen," said Arshtat with a warning tone in her voice. The Sun Rune glittered dangerously for a moment.
"Did you hear about the fight in town?" asked Ferid. "There's apparently been some talk from both the Barows and Godwin factions."
"Here in the capital city?" asked Arshtat, still not quite sounding like herself. "They have grown bold."
"And if they're 'bold' in the capital, they may be wagging their tongues a bit more freely further out," pointed out Ferid. "You'll have to travel without Lyon."
"Yes," said Sialeeds, "she's a good fighter but I don't think she could be covert. I'm a little doubtful that Faroush could manage such a thing."
Faroush shrugged, letting them interpret that however they wanted. "I also want to see more of the country, without letting everyone know I'm the Prince."
"HAH!" said Ferid, jumping forward and ruffling Faroush's hair in a sudden move. "I knew it!"
"Going to spy on the citizenry? I'm surprised Lym isn't here, she'd be ready to scrape the plaster off the walls with as hare-brained a scheme as this," said Sialeeds.
"He's not going alone," said Ferid. "I know just the people to send along with you."
"I get the feeling I'm not going to like this," said Faroush/Ranma. His plan, such as it had been, was to get off by himself for awhile on the trip - reconcile the Faroush and Ranma parts of himself, and find out if Lordlake was the exception. After all, the Royal Family relied on various groups and courtiers for information, and if they'd been compromised or were sugar-coating things.
"Sialeeds, you and Lyon will be taking a ship later, but I've got an idea on the Prince's overland journey," said Ferid with a grin that did nothing to ease his son's concerns.
"Okay, this is bad," said Faroush/Ranma. He'd never expected...
