Still, there was much for her to wonder about, and it only had to do with her classmate's marriage in part. Sure, she was surprised by the news that Akane Tendo was married, but that was not what pricked her interest. What seemed to be a bit off was that Yuka and Sayuri, two of the martial artist's best friends, weren't jumping in with their own concerns. She knew that they cared about the other girl, but for some reason that escaped her, they weren't racing to see what sort of protections their friend needed.
It wasn't until she was taking some remnants from her own lunch to the garbage that she found out just what it was that had caused such behavior.
"Still, maybe things will settle down now that your marriage is out in the open."
Hearing Yuka's words made Mayumi realize just what had been going on, and she couldn't stop herself from stepping out to where the others could see her. "You two knew about their marriage?!"
"Ah... eh...." Yuka stammered.
"Sort of," Sayuri murmured. "But it's not what you think...."
"Then what is it? They're married!" she blurted, unable to hide her shock.
"Indeed they are," intoned a new, male voice.
Now all five individuals, along with everyone else in the yard sighed in dismay.
Kuno took it as an expression of awe, and held himself that much more taller. "Yes, the gasps of delight at my presence are ever so wonderful to have, are they not?"
"Aw, great. What do you want?" the girl with the ponytail growled.
"Simple. I wish to make my views known on this bond between my beloved Akane, and the lucky fool Saotome."
"You don't think that it could be true, do you?"
"Ah, but it is quite the opposite, for I can not declare such a noble union false."
"Huh?" Yuka grunted, and blinked at the older boy. "But you're always refusing to admit that any boy could be worthy of her."
"True, but the fact of the matter is that this union has been made, and as it is simple to check, I can not see why even one such as this... commoner could see fit to lie about such institutions."
"Hey!" went said 'commoner'.
"In that respect, I can only honor the dear maiden's intentions and desires, and treat this marriage with the great dignity that it deserves."
"Then why come here, upperclassman?" Akane asked, making the last word sound like an insult.
"Why else would I come? To make certain that you are given the love and care that you should."
"But you just said that you'd treat my marriage well...."
"Which is exactly why I am here," the elder boy declared, and pointed his bokuto straight at Ranma. "To that end, I, Tatewaki Kuno, rising star of the kendo world and noble lord of this realm shall make sure that you follow the path that you have placed yourself upon."
Ranma looked at the other boy rather like he didn't understand a word that he was saying, and didn't expect to gain enlightenment in that arena any time soon. "And what the hell does that mean?"
"It means that you must learn to do what is right, boor. As such, you must be educated in the proper care, respect, and comfort of the living goddess, Akane Tendo."
"Hold on a sec...."
"There can be no waiting, for the sooner that you finish your lessons, the better it will be for that most noble of young ladies. You shall learn what it proper in your behavior towards her, discovering how best to speak to her, making a habit of sheltering her, and finding out how best to glorify her."
"Ahh...."
"And who better to teach you but me, the great and wise Tatewaki Kuno?!" the would be samurai cried out. "I, who not only know best on how to romance and treat women, but is the one who is the most aware of the prize that Akane Tendo is. For only I can be truly aware of the glorious presence that the heavens have bestowed upon this land, and as such, am the sole individual capable of enlarging the meager understandings that others have of her beauty, grace, and nobility."
The married couple wore matching twitching brows and scowls on their faces.
"He's just gone to another level of stupidity," Sayuri said under her breath.
"Just when I thought that he couldn't be any more of a moron," Yuka sighed. "Here he goes again."
"And he just doesn't know how bad he is, the idiot," Mayumi commented just as quietly, while:
