So, he recognized the naturally seductive, yet completely unfeigned, sway of the hips that marked the approaching individual as being feminine. It wasn't hard to see the curvy shape of the form once the person was close enough, which was a figure that wouldn't lose much to many of the women he'd met. However, there wasn't a sinister edge to this movement, and it didn't speak of any sort of need to push a viewer into action. Knowing that the person coming towards him was someone who didn't have a need to broadcast her sexuality, easing his concern over some sort of seduction attempt, he said the most intelligent thing that he could manage as he saw who it was.
"Uh... Hi, Nabiki. What are you doing here?" he asked, before wincing at what he'd said.
Nabiki merely raised a brow at him. "I live here, Saotome. Where else would I be at this time of night?"
"Oh, yeah. Right."
"Of course, I really should ask you what exactly you're doing up at this hour. I could hear noises coming from here...."
"Just... checking my luggage."
"Now?"
"Well, when should I do it?" Ranma asked, furrowing his brow thoughtfully at her. "I mean, it's time for bed...."
"True. Still, I'd watch out. One might think that you were planning on running for it."
"'Running'? From what?"
"'From' the engagement our dads cooked up," the brunette told him flatly.
"You don't think...."
"Saotome, my Dad's apparently been looking forward to this for a long, long time. I don't think that the idea of you running off to who knows where would sit well with him."
The pigtailed boy gave off a small sigh. "Lucky that I'm not planning on going anywhere then. Still, I'm not all that sure on how it's going to go. I mean, it's not like you guys know me."
"But you still have your own appeals."
"Is that so?"
"Trust me, you've got my big sister not dismissing you, even if you're a 'younger man'."
"And that is because...."
"Simple," Nabiki told him, and smiled slightly as she shifted to English. "(You aren't exactly a homebody. Most boys don't leave their neighborhood, but you haven't exactly done that, have you?"
"(No, not really. I....) Hold on a second...."
"Yes, I do speak English. And I did think that you probably did two, since you've travelled in America."
"Had to learn it. Not that I planned it."
"Yes, but you also aren't some simple dumb jock."
For a moment, Ranma nearly let his eyes snap to look at her, but he kept himself under control. "What makes you think so?"
"You're traveled, skilled, and haven't been staring at my chest rather than my face during our conversation here."
"Oh."
"Considering that I'be been looking into making something of myself in one of those companies that do international business, having a guy who would be home at the dojo for his classes, and who had been to places further away than Shinjuku isn't all that bad a prospect."
"Is you say so."
Bending towards him so that he could see her bosom bounce under her pajamas, she gave him a carefully calm look. "Just don't think that saying that means that I'm just going to suddenly decide to go out with you."
He lightly grimaced at the situation that he'd been, and gave her an understanding look, while:
