Firebird and Lion: Awakenings [Episode 192940]

by Disruptor

In a room in the Castle of Lions, Princess Allura looked at one of the girls from the Danfighters. She saw that Nanny had her hand on the girl's forehead.

"Any change?" Allura asked.

"Not a one. If it weren't for those silly monitors, I'd say she was dead. Same goes for the other three. Their skin is as hard as steel and I can't feel a pulse," Nanny said.

Both jumped slightly when the girl in the bed sighed and started sitting up. The girl's blue eyes widened and she looked around in a panic.

"Where am I? Who are you"

"I am Princess Allura of Alus. You are on the planet Alus in the Castle of Lions. Who are you?"

The girl relaxed a bit. "My name is Mia Alice. I have to know are you servants of Garimoth?"

"Who is Garimoth? No. I serve my people and protect them from the Druul Empire."

"The what empire?" Mia asked.

"You've been in stasis for a long time, Mia," Allura said softly.

"What about my friends? Roll? Lanba? Pai?"

"The other three pilots? We found them and you in a star system. You were the first to wake up," Allura said.

"We'd better go see them. Pai is a bit hotheaded and Lanba does have flights of panic at time. The two of them might bring this castle down around our ears," Mia said, and quickly got out of bed.

"You shouldn't be up," Nanny scolded. "You might pass out."

Mia closed her eyes and a blue glow surrounded her for a second. She opened her eyes and looked at Nanny with a smile.

"I'm fine. Thank you for your concern though," Mia said.

"What are you?" Nanny asked in a whisper.

"Altered human. The closest match to what we are would be a biological android. However, we do have human pasts from before the alterations were done to us," Mia replied. "Where are the others? I should be there when they wake up."

"Follow me," Allura said. "We're keeping each of you in separate rooms."

Mia followed Allura outside. After a moment, Mia stopped and closed her eyes and gritted her teeth. She opened her eyes again and nodded at Allura.

"The others are awake. I told them that we'd be together soon," Mia said.

"How? What?"

"I'm telepathic. I can read minds and talk to other people telepathically. I'm also aware of where each member of my team is at all times and if I concentrate, I can talk to them," Mia replied. "I also have some talents in telekinesis."

"Do the others have powers like that?" Allura asked, half-afraid of the answer.

"Yes. Lanba can fire powerful bolts of energy from her fingers. Pai might not be as strong with psychic powers as the rest of us, but she can lift several tons. Roll, when running, generates a field around his body that can smash through a lot of things," Mia said in a calm voice. "We can also mentally call our fighters to us, when we need them. But, I have the feeling that they were destroyed in our last battle with Gil Berg."

"Um. Your fighters drained energy from Voltron to repair themselves and they are sitting outside," Allura said in a dazed tone.

"That's great. We won't be stuck here. By the way, what is Voltron?"

"We'll talk about that later. I think we need to get you and your friend together now!" Allura said with a bit of force.

Allura quickly showed Mia where Roll was. After that the two Dangaio pilots followed her to where Lanba was at and then they met up with Pai. Allura motioned for the four to follow her and they went into a large conference room inside the Castle of Lions. There they saw the other members of the Voltron Force with Coran and a somewhat shell-shocked Nanny. Some strange mice were sitting on top of the helmet of a suit of armor standing alongside the wall. After some introductions were given, Allura got down to business.

"As Princess of Alus, I welcome you to our planet," Allura said. "I do not know who Garimoth is, so I can't tell you a thing about him."

"I can answer that," Coran said. "It's not well known, but that was the actual name of the Space Pirate known as the Bunker. His fleet eventually became the Gypsy Fleet."

"Actually, Bunker was the name of the fleet. The name was used interchangeably with him, since it was his fleet," Pai corrected.

"Hmm. I didn't know that," Coran said. "At any rate, he was killed by a squad of Latecians breaking into his main ship and setting the thing to self-destruct. The blast destabilized the fleet and allowed Latecian forces to beat back the Pirate Fleet."

Lanba quietly asked, "I know that my home planet was destroyed, but are there any survivors of the planet Lilis still around."

Coran reared back a bit in shock. "You're from Lilis? Well, that's shock. Um. Yes. The survivors of Lilis colonized a new planet and rebuilt after the destruction of their homeworld."

"I'm glad. The Bunker destroyed Lilis after stripping the planet of all resources," Lanba said in a quiet tone.

"Don't say that near anyone from the Gypsy Fleet. They are having a hard time believing that the Bunker was as evil as Latecia makes him to be."

"I don't know. I'm from what you call the Gypsy Fleet and I have no problems believing Lanba," Pai said with a smirk.

"You've already covered my homeworld of Latecia, so I don't have to ask about it. I think, unless something major happened," Roll said.

"They were a founding member of the Galaxy Alliance. What about you Mia?" Keith replied.

"Tokyo, Japan of the planet Earth," Mia answered.

"Earth is doing fine, although it has had some problems along the way," Lance said.

"How did your fighters wind up around that sun."

"We were fighting Gil Berg over the skies of Latecia and in the last seconds, Doctor Tarsan used the warp beam of the DalDal to transports us away and repair our craft," Mia replied. "That was his last action, the DalDal was about to explode when he fired it."

"I'm sorry for your loss," Keith said. "Gil Berg the Psycho? No wonder your fighters looked mauled. It is said that only one person eluded him time and time again. He became obsessed with finding that person and destroying him or her utterly. That was one of the reasons Latecia was able to beat Garimoth."

"He could always hold a grudge. It was me he was after," Mia replied somberly. "I tried to show him mercy and save his life once, and he considered it a major insult to his honor. There is more to it than that. Allura, do you recall what I told you about ourselves?"

"Yes. It was something about you being altered."

"Well, Gil Berg was our prototype, so to speak. He was trying to remove us because we were better than he was in a lot of ways," Mia said. "As long as we were alive, he was always second best. Doctor Tarsan always called us his masterpieces and it rankled Gil quite a bit. Tarsan is the one who worked on Gil Berg and us. Gil did kill Doctor Tarsan before tying to kill us in that last battle."

"Whew! Talk about a person with some issues," Lance said.

"I can't argue that," Mia said. "If only...."

Sensing the somber mood that the humans were having, the mice jumped down from the helmet and started doing acrobatic flips in front of the group. The Dangaio team stared at the antics in bewilderment.

Lanba pointed at the mice. "What are those things?"

"Those Space Mice are my friends," Allura said. "They've always been in the castle and entertained me when I was little."

"Right. This planet's versions of clowns or court jesters are what those things are. They are not worth bothering about," Pai said.

"Probable. Princess Allura, you a mentioned a Voltron? What is that?" Mia asked.

"You've never heard of Voltron?" Keith asked in shock.

"Voltron showed up after Lilis was blown apart. If Lanba is from Lilis, it means that it was before Voltron appeared."

"If it wasn't for the stasis, I'd be fourteen. Lilis was destroyed about three months after my fourteenth birthday," Lanba replied. "I can't recall my fourteenth birthday at all clearly. It was on the DalDal and all I can recall is tubes and wires."

"Right," Allura said a bit uncomfortably. "Let's get back to Voltron."

She quickly launched into a detailed description of Voltron or as it was better known around the galaxy as Lion Force Voltron. She covered the history of Voltron and the legend that Hagar the witch tricked the mighty robot onto a black comet that caused it to break up into five lions that landed on Arus.

"A combiner unit? That explains why the Bunker never came here. Combiner units are a real problem to deal with," Pai said.

"Maybe," Keith said. "What about the four of you?"

"Our past is dead and gone and better off forgotten," Pai replied.
