The aliens were squat-bodied, vaguely tyrannosaurian in look, and the camera showing what was going on only held those pictures briefly before it fell to the ground.
The broadcast continued for a few moments before the scene switched to a man at an anchor desk.
"We... seem to be experiencing some technical difficulties," said the newsanchor.
"No joke," said Rei from where she was sitting.
"Are they yoma?" asked Makoto.
"No, they're aliens," said Ami, trying to get a certain mental distance from the scene that had just played out on the screen.
"We've got to do something!" declared Usagi. "Err. Though that's awfully far away. Maybe the Americans did something to provoke this?"
"They've got video back," pointed out Minako.
The picture was being taken from one of the buildings facing the landing site. As the tyrannosaurids went forward, something that looked like a tank moved out of the lander to trundle across the cleared area. It was joined by a second and a third, which then spaced themselves out around the lander.
"They're forming a perimeter," guessed Ami. "Those look like they could be aimed at aircraft."
A thick beam briefly stabbed out from one of the 'tanks.' The camera went up to show a blot of smoke and something falling."I think that was a news chopper," said the cameraman. "Did we do something wrong? How can we tell these visitors that we're peaceful?"
"He's kidding, right?" asked Rei.
"Disassociative shock," guessed Ami. "Things happened too quickly for him to be able to catch up."
"Ohmykami!" exclaimed Usagi. "What are those people doing?!"
"They're advancing under a white flag, either to surrender or negotiate," said Ami, a little uncertain herself.
"Oh kami..." said Minako as the onscreen images detailed the alien reaction. "It's a slaughter."
"They've got what look like antipersonnel grenade launchers," said Ami.
"We apologize for the graphicness of these scenes," said the news anchor. "Now we go to the latest scandal from Hollywood..."
