[Three Months Ago...]
The scene was tranquil. It was a calm winter day, the sky was blue
and a cold, nippy breeze wafted through the leafless trees surrounding
the small clearing in the park that day. The perfect weather for loved
ones to cuddle close and seek out one another for warmth amongst other things.
One such couple was taking advantage of the situation, unawares of the
warm smiles and soft, tender giggles from elder couples who were reminded
of their own courting once upon a time.
The boy, wearing a simple red coat over his frame, smiled gently down
upon his date who was seemingly glued to his arm. "So, how're you enjoyin'
yourself, Usa-chan?"
Usagi smiled in content at her boyfriend's words. As it caused her heart
to melt as a soft blush appeared on her cheeks, "I'm enjoying myself,
Ran-chan. Thank you."
Ranma chuckled at his girlfriend, "Y'know, At the way you're goin'... yer gonna
be froze to that arm soon."
"That's fine with me," she replied dreamily.
He chuckled at that response. He tensed a bit, and Usagi looked up worriedly
at her boyfriend, "Ran-chan? What is it?"
He sighed as he turned to her, feeling the words grow more and more difficult
to say as he looked into her blue eyes filled with worry, "I... I kinda got
some bad news Usagi."
Ranma mentally slapped himself as he saw the blond's reaction to him calling her
by her first name. He had not done such a thing ever since they had started
dating, and all it had managed to do was make the air around them grow all the
heavier, "Y-y-you.... you're not breaking up with me are you Ran-chan?"
"Nonononononononononononono!!!!" Ranma denied frantically, waving his free
arm at the blond, "I ain't about ta do somethin' that dang dumb!"
"Then what is it?"
Ranma let out another sigh as he gazed off distantly at nothing, "Well... it's
just that it looks like pops is gettin' that itch again..."
Usagi blinked in confusion, "Itch?"
He nodded, "The itch ta go on the road again."
"Oh..." Usagi let out a slight sigh of relief before she slapped her boyfriend's
shoulder.
Ranma blinked, "Hey! What was that for?"
"For making me think you were dumping me, you jerk!" She retorted irritably.
"Yeah, yeah... sorry your highness."
They were silent for a few minutes before Ranma sighed half-heartily, "I'm sorry
'bout all this, Usa-chan."
Usagi shook her head and kissed his cheek, "It's ok, Ran-chan. It's not
your fault." She snuggled into his shoulder and sighed dejectedly, "So...
when... when are you going?"
Ranma shrugged, "Dunno."
"Oh..." She looked into Ranma's blue eyes again, "So... as far as you know...
you could be gone as soon as you leave here?"
He nodded, "That's about right."
Silence reigned over them once more. Then Ranma looked down at Usagi, "Well... we
can always get married."
The young girl blinked at her boyfriend's proposal, "Huh?"
Ranma smiled, "I said... let's get married, Usa-chan."
"Are... are you serious?"
He nodded, "Dead serious. We're both old enough, and we can call Akane and
her sisters to be our witnesses," He rose an eyebrow at her, " 'Sides...
ani't ya always wanted ta be a bride?"
Usagi nodded, "Yes! But... but it's just so..."
"Sudden?" he finished.
"Yes!" She blushed as she stood up off the bench, looking away from him
shyly, "And what about our parents?"
Ranma stood and shrugged, "What about 'em? We'll just keep it a secret
for now. If worse comes to worse, we can tell my mom. For some reason, I'd
think she'd love the idea."
He clasped her hands gently and looked down into her eyes, "Usagi, this last
year's been the best of my life. And it's all 'cause of you." He leaned
down so that their foreheads were touching, "I love you, Usa-chan. And I
know I'll never love someone as much as I do you. So why bother waiting
to spend th' rest of our lives together?"
Usagi's smile was radiant as Ranma finished his words.
"Say it again."
And as he looked down upon her face, a brief wave of emotions swept threw
the pigtailed boy. Love, fear, hope, worry... unlike a martial arts battle
this was alien territory to the martial artist wonder. As much as he hated
to admit it, yes this was crazy. They were both still in school, with no
home nor a way to support themselves. And he would be gone for three months.
Not exactly the best way to start a marriage.
Could he really do this? Could he really devote himself fully to such a
commitment? As much as he loved Usagi, was that love really enough?
He snorted mentally. Who the hell was he kiding? He was Ranma Saotome. This
would be as easy as walking over hot coals. What could possibly go wrong?
As their faces lowered, Ranma couldn't help but indulge his soon-to-be-wife
in her request.
"Let's get married, Usa-chan."

[Today]
Ranma frowned as he walked with his father, the clouds overhead growing darker
as it looked like rain was coming.
"Let's hurry boy," Genma grunted to his son, "I'd rather not have to explain
our condition to my friend yet."
Ranma grunted in response. He had a feeling his old man was plotting
something, but it mattered little right now. He was back in his
homeland, and the sooner his wife was back in his arms, the better. The
thought of finally reuniting with Usagi was one of the few things that
made the events of China even bearable to the pigtailed martial artist.
And whatever idiotic plans his father had in mind where a small price
to pay in his opinion.
"So who's this friend we're visiting pops?" Ranma asked.
Genma simply smirked in response as:
