“We’ll what!?” Nearly every former human exclaimed this, save Usagi, who was napping in a sunbeam, and Hotaru, the transformation especially taxing on her delicate constitution.
“Basic law of magic,” Artemis explained. “Your thoughts are shaped by your shape. You didn’t all think I was that big of a pervert, did you?” An uncomfortable silence fell. “Luna, help me out here.”
"I’ll admit you weren’t quite as bad during the Silver Millenium,” the newly humanoid Luna allowed. “Still, that leads to the next point: The instincts you will feel most strongly are those that most closely mesh with your own personality. My affectionate, compassionate personality, for example.”
“And your reflexive paranoia,” added the other Mau.
Luna glared at him. “You’re lucky you’re larger than I am now. And that I no longer have claws.”
“Moving on,” Artemis said hastily, before Luna improvised a new way to make him suffer. “You’ll all need to know the abilities and weaknesses of this form.”
“Why don’t we try looking for a cure instead?” asked Rei.
“Where would you begin to look?” Luna countered.
“There’s always the Ginzuishou,” offered the Marscat.
Luna sighed. “We have no way of knowing if Usagi can even summon the Ginzuishou in her current state, much less use its power.”
“One way to find out,” Rei declared, before pouncing on Usagi. “Wake up, dumpling head! We need you!”
“Sunbeam…”
“”Rrrrr…” I her frustration, Rei located that bit of the feline brain that controlled claw deployment. Seeing the natural weapons brought a smile to the Marscat, as though she had eaten the proverbial Marscanary or had gotten the equally proverbial Marscream.
“Ow!” That woke up Usagi but good. “You’re so mean, Rei-chan!” The pussycat princess located the claw deployment center as well, and a catfight, in every sense of the word, broke out.
The Outers rolled their eyes and ignored the clashing kitties. Oddly enough, so did the Inners, to their surprise as much as anyone else’s, once they realized what they were doing.
“Um, shouldn’t we…stop them or something?” The very idea seemed idiotic to Makoto even as it passed through her lips.
“In theory,” replied Ami, “but maybe it’s better to just let them get this out of their systems.”
“I certainly don’t want to get in the middle of that,” said Minako, watching warily as Rei slashed at Usagi’s hindquarters while Usagi bit Rei’s tail.
Much to all the Senshis’ surprise, the fight was terminated by a large splash as Luna upended a bucket of cold water on the combatants. “If you two are quite finished,” she said haughtily.
The drenched duo glanced one another, gave a stereo “feh,” and stalked away to lick wounds and dignity.
Artemis sighed anew. “This is what I was talking about. The laziness, the violent tendencies, ignoring another’s fight, disregarding humans the moment they stop doing something directly related to you…”
Luna finished the thought. “You all must fight how your body is telling you to act. Think with your minds, not your whiskers.” She turned to her princes. “Usagi, could you try to summon the Ginzuishou?”
Meanwhile, Setsuna and Michiru were conversing with Artemis. “Aside from the tomcattery, you never really displayed such qualities,” noted the tabby of Time. “Why not?”
“I’ve had years of experience. Mau are born shapeshifters, literally. Dealing with two sets of instincts was something that was ingrained in every child’s education.”
There came a flash. Everyone turned and saw
