Although Ranma didn't like to admit it now, he had been very sore at first when he had first found out about Usa's daemon hunting activities. It wasn't that Ranma had anything against Usa fighting the daemons. What had made Ranma so sore about the situation was the fact that he wasn't out there protecting Usa's back. The thought that Usa could possibly be hurt and that there was nothing that he could do really bothered Ranma.
However as Ranma had been very much aware of at the time, wishes and the world are two totally different things. It had been plainly obvious to Ranma that his skills and training at the time had been totally unsuited for fighting the various daemons. Physically Ranma was strong enough to go head to head with several of the weaker daemons in a pure martial arts fight. Unfortunately for Ranma, most daemons didn't fight up close but instead fought with powerful magical ranged attacks. Those attacks made Ranma pretty much useless when the daemons attacked except for helping other people escape.
Usa had quickly caught on to the fact that Ranma was upset about not being able to help her fight the daemons. Ranma's desire to protect her and the fact that he wanted to be able to help her, not stop her, in her daemon slaying touched Usa very deeply. Since Usa had never wanted to be a damsel in distress or do a gender role reversal and be the heroic prince in that situation; she had immediately started looking for a way that would allow Ranma to fight effectively.
