Negi Springfield met his class of students, which included Konoka Konoe and Setsuna .
Something not immediately apparent to those of this Chained World was that the law-abiding areas were generally clean and well-maintained and ordered. The social structure was such that everyone had their place in the society and fit within that place. Nails that stood out got pounded flat. Even in a rough-and-tumble school with juvenile delinquents and gang violence, things were civilized. Akane Tendo might have been the leader of her own gang, and a passionate girl who indulged her passions (whether violent or otherwise) to a strong extent - she wasn't going to break into a vending machine to steal from it.
Where the laws of civilization were lacking, more of a Darwinian ethics system held sway. During their stay on this planet, Genma and Ranma had more than once spent significant time in these other areas. In places such as that, if you weren't a predator you were prey. The few who broke that setting had to be sufficiently tough that they could face down the worst predators out there.
Akane and her gang were facing Genma. Genma could be a lazy gluttonous slug. On the other hand, when sufficiently motivated he could become a formidable adversary. He had had to upgrade his own skills dramatically since his arrival. In civilized areas, one normally left one's opponent alive and without permanent disability. In the less civilized areas, one couldn't afford such things.
When Akane picked herself up and charged Genma again, he re-evaluated her as an opponent and did what came natural to him. After grabbing her, pivoting, and using her momentum with his own strength threw her hard enough that the reinforced wall of the gym was indented. Her followers, including Hiroshi and Daisuke, were even easier to deal with.
Akane picked herself up again, forcing herself to stand, only to realize that her portly opponent was imitating a bullet train and she was dead center in the tracks.
Genma dusted himself off. The minions were pathetic, but then - they were minions. This girl though - she had talent and drive. Not many people could pick themselves up after he'd used the Threshing Mantis manuever on them, much less the Sacred Flower Throw. It had taken the Runaway Train before she stayed down, so he'd have to rate her as fairly tough by local standards.
He was feeling a bit better about putting Ranma in this school.
"HOLD THERE!"
Genma looked towards some guy with a bokken. "Yeah?"
"The Great and Illustrious Shooting Star of Furinkan will not allow one such as yourself to manhandle the fair Akane so," said the boy. "As the scion of the mighty house of Kuno, the glorious heir of samurai tradition, I shall not stand for thy invasion of the grounds of this most hallowed institution."
Genma considered the boy as seriously as he could at the moment. Maybe he ought to gauge this guy's worth? "Up yours."
"Excuse me?!" said the boy. "Do you not know whom you speak to?"
"Yeah, you're some illustrated star shooter or something," said Genma. "You want to stop wasting my time?"
The boy snarled. "I'll make thee pay for thy arrogance, and your handling of mine lady!"
Genma smirked. The boy was already losing his cool? He hadn't even STARTED to get insulting. "Lady? I thought this was a boy. Well, if you're a samurai that's fairly typical isn't it? They all tended to be into little boys."
With an inarticulate scream, the boy ran forward - swinging his bokken around.
Genma sidestepped the air blast, blocked the next, and ducked under the third. Hmmm. Looked like his pattern was... "You're in school? Test time, then!"
The boy closed the distance to swordrange, Genma moved around and then in.
BONK! SLAP! SLAP!
The boy stared as the portly man leapt back out. The same portly man who'd dodged his swing, then bonked him atop his head and slapped both cheeks. "YOU! YOU! YOU!"
Genma swatted the boy aside. Nothing new to learn here, and pathetic compared to some of the fighters he and the boy had fought in rough areas like Thailand.
