"And so we go on to the beginning of the next day, chu!"
Gotta love that bat.
Shiki walked up the familiar route to the school with one hand was in his pocket, fingering the letter of withdrawal he had written the previous evening. But he was wondering whether he should stay at the school and risk his life for Moka's sake. He was so lost in thought that he bumped into a larger person and promptly fell on his butt.
"I'm sorr-" He was cut off as the larger person picked him up by his collar with one hand. Shiki recognized the larger student as the one who spoke earlier in yesterday's class about eating humans. What was his name again?
"Just what does she see in you anyway? What is your true form?"
"T-true form?"
Before the larger student could get further, there was a shout from another classmate of theirs. "Knock it off, Saizou! We have to get to class!"
The one who was identified as Saizou merely dropped Shiki and turned around. "If you know what's good for you, don't go near Moka again or you're dead!"
He knew that if the larger man hadn't been interrupted, he would most likely be back in the nurse's office or even dead. Without wasting any time, he headed back to his dorm room and packed up his things. 'That does it... I have to get out of here before I'm dead!' After placing his knife safely in his pocket, he took a few steps out of his dorm when he got glomped on from behind.
"Morning, Shiki! If we don't hurry, we're going to be tardy!" said Moka's cheerful voice.
"Moka-san..." She then looked at his hands to see his luggage.
"...... Shiki?"
"I can't stay here. I was never supposed to come here in the first place! I was supposed to go to a normal human high school!"
Upon hearing those last words, Moka immediately took his hand. "You can't go to a human school! I... I hate those humans!"
"Eh?!"
She had a melancholic expression on her face. "Actually, I attended human schools up until middle school and everywhere I went, I felt alone and isolated. And at times, I felt as if someone was watching me like a hunter. It was so awful!" The expression then changed into a small smile. "But then I met you and you didn't seem to mind that I'm a vampire. This has been the first time in my life that I didn't feel alone!"
"Moka-san... if I said I was one of those humans that you hated, would you still stop me?"
This time, she was the one who looked confused. "What?"
"I'm human. As I said before, I was never supposed to come here. Through some mistake, I ended up being in this school but I'm different from you!" Shiki sighed once before resuming his trip to the bus stop. "That look on your face... it said it all. It was because you realized I am human."
"Shiki, please wait!" As she put a hand on his shoulder, he shook it off and glared at her.
"You hate humans, right? Then you shouldn't associate with me. Otherwise... it can get you into trouble. Take care." And he ran off before she could talk to him again.
