Michiru carefully listened to what Ranma was saying and how he was saying it. Over all two things were very apparent to Michiru. First, Ranma was an unfortunate and at least relatively innocent victim of his father’s poor judgment. The next thing that was apparent to Michiru was the fact that Ranma was trying to cautiously explain the situation to her while being afraid that she would blame him for the situation. Michiru then very calmly said to Ranma since she could see that he was getting tense waiting for her response, “Don’t worry Ranma. I’m not about to get angry at you for your ‘unorthodox’ situation. Besides I get the feeling that you and I will get into ‘unique’ situations from time to time, so a little understanding on both our parts will do us both a lot of good.”
As Ranma breathed a small sigh of relief from hearing that Michiru wasn’t about to kill him, Michiru thought about what they should do next. One thing that came to Michiru’s mind was the fact that she would, with much regret on her part, have to give up her preferred choice of companionship. In both of her lives Michiru had been taught the importance of honoring her word and that was part of why she had been so angry with Hakura. Michiru couldn’t remember much from the night before, but she did remember that the marriage contract she had signed contained a mutual fidelity clause.
For his part Ranma was feeling content about the situation in front of him. Michiru’s surprising, at least to Ranma, acceptance of the situation before them might very well avert Nerima’s nuclear meltdown. However, Ranma did not break out in a smile over this because he saw a tear start to form in Michiru’s eye. This did not sit well with Ranma at all. A part of Ranma became worried that it was the truth of his previous SNAFU romantic relationship that was hurting Michiru and that was unacceptable to him. Their marriage may have been unexpected and they didn’t really know each other, but Ranma was determined to make sure that Michiru was happy. Ranma had promised himself long ago that if he ever got married that he would treat his marriage much more seriously then Genma had.
After very carefully going over his words to not accidentally insult Michiru, Ranma cautiously asked, “What’s upsetting you Michiru?” Ranma’s words made Michiru unable to continue to hold back her tears and she proceeded to cry on his shoulders. As Michiru cried she told Ranma the entire story about how she had come to the Tendo Dojo. She told him everything, about her relationship with Hakura, the photos, the marriage contract clause she remembered, and her orientation. The only things that Michiru left out as she sobbed were the Sailor Scouts and the kitchen sink.
