“Put them down over here. I’ll get us something to drink.”
Setsuna raised her head from her tea cup at the sound of the youngest Senshi’s voice. It was rare for her to be caught off guard, but she was not expecting Hotaru to be home this early. Hotaru hadn’t sounded in distress, so Setsuna could only assume that she was fine. Still, it would be good to know why she wasn’t at school. She only had to wait a moment for Hotaru to enter the kitchen.
The younger girl stopped in surprise upon seeing the Time Guardian. “Oh, Setsuna-mama, I haven’t seen you in awhile!” Quickly, Hotaru crossed the kitchen and gave her surrogate second mother a hug. “Where have you been?”
“I was busy, Hotaru-chan, but now I think I can some time off to relax.” Reaching up, Setsuna ruffled the girl’s hair with on hand as she returned the hug. “Now, what are you doing home? I know today is a school day.”
Hotaru too a step back and nodded. “Yes, but I didn’t go today. I’m not going to be going to school for the rest of the week either.”
This, Setsuna thought, was different. Hotaru was normally a very good student, and always went to school. Even in her past when she was picked on constantly, she never tried to get out of school. “Why are you not going to school this week?”
Hotaru grinned as she gave her reply. “Because it’s my honeymoon!”
“Honeymoon?”
Hotaru nodded and raised her right hand, showing the gold ring on her finger. “I got married last night.”
Setsuna let that though run around in her head for a moment before she did the only thing she could. She fainted.
From the other room, Ranma heard the unmistakable sound (to him) of a body hitting the floor. Wasting no time, he dropped the last of the packages he was holding and dashed toward the sound.
Upon arriving in the kitchen, he found his wife kneeling next to a woman with her hands glowing. “Whoa, what’s that?”
Hotaru looked up, startled at Ranma’s appearance. In that moment, she realized that her abilities had never come up before. “Umm…” her voice was quiet even as she continued to help Setsuna, “I can heal people.”
“Really?” Ranma’s mind turned that around in his head and started applying it to his life. There was so much more training he could get in if he could heal all of those minor injuries that came up. “That’s so cool! Can ya teach me?”
Hotaru slowly shook her head. “No, I don’t think so. Its just something that I’ve always been able to do.” At the disappointed look that came over Ranma’s face, she said “But I’m willing to try.”
At that, Ranma grinned. “I’ll learn how to do it. There ain’t no technique that I can’t learn.”
As Hotaru attempted to work through the triple negative to get what Ranma was saying Setsuna woke up. “Ugh,” she said as she opened her eyes. Upon seeing Hotaru, she continued, “Hotaru-chan, I just had the strangest dream. You skipped school and came home to tell me that you got married yesterday.”
Hotaru gave a nervous smile as she helped Setsuna sit up. Incidentally, with her attention focused on the Senshi of Time, she completely missed Ranma’s quick dance of joy at finally learning her name. “I did get married yesterday. This is my husband, Ranma. Ranma, this is Setsuna-mama.”
Setsuna turned her head and allowed her red eyes to drift over the young man who was now giving her a nervous wave. He was definitely older than her adopted daughter, and in beyond excellent shape. Boy, were the Inner Senshi going to be jealous when they saw what Hotaru caught. Still, she couldn’t let her ‘daughter’ get off easy.
“I have to admit,” Setsuna said as she turned her attention back to the other female in the room, “I never would have expected this to be your type.”
