"So, Ranma," Setsuna asked, "what can you tell me about this love spell that was chasing you? They do not appear out of thin air."
Ranma nodded his head in agreement. "Yeah, its always some idiot who sets the damn things off."
"Of course."
"Anyway, its all Pop's fault. Him and Mr. Tendo."
You're father, I take it?"
Ranma grimaced. "Sometimes I wish he wasn't, but yeah. Ya see, he and Mr. Tendo had been trying to make me and Akane get married for the past year. This whole arranged marriage crap. Anyway, they took a whole bunch of us to the park yesterday for a picnic, and when me and Akane were standin' by each other, they pulled out this jar that shot the pink stuff at us. We both dodged, and it chased me until I tried to save Hotaru."
"Hmm...I see." And Setsuna did see. She now had a place to start searching for the answer. She just needed to find Ranma in the time gates for yesterday, and follow him until she saw the jar. At that point she could really start looking into things.
That, however, could wait until later. It wasn't like she could change the past. That meant she needed to get to know her new Son-in-Law. "Do you have much experience with magic, Ranma?"
The pigtail young man nodded and began counting on his fingers. "Jusenkyo, Dragon Whisker, Locking Ladel, Nimban Mirror, magical clone from a different mirror, ghost cat, love rod thing, reversal jewl, Phoenix God. Yeah, all things considered, getting married because of some love spell isn't that big a deal."
Setsuna's face once more turned into a frown, though Ranma didn't notice. "Being married to my daughter isn't a big deal to you?" The question was almost growled out.
Ranma, however, didn't notice at all. "Naw, not really. She's a cute girl, and seems really nice. She's way too into those lamps, but whatever. And that healing thing she does is really cool." The more Ranma talked about her, the more Ranma realized that getting married to Hotaru really was a pretty good deal for him. Besides, what were husbands supposed to do, anyway? His pop had said get Hotaru a home and find a way to support her. It shouldn't be too difficult if his old man could do it. "She's never attacked me. That's a big plus. Hell, now that I'm really thinking about it, she's the best girl I've ever met. Mom will love her."
As she listened to Ranma speak about Hotaru, she wondered just what kind of life could create a boy with such an...odd point of view on life. She made a note to look into Ranma too, not just the spell.
Before she could make any reply, however, Hotaru came back into the room. "Setsuna-mama, this is the lamp! Isn't it great?" The lamp in question was blue and green, and had so many odd twists and turns the eye found it impossible to follow.
"Yes, Hotaru," Setsuna said, forcing her eyes away from the monstrosity, "its certainly unique. Now, why don't you take the lamp and Ranma and go sit in the living room while I make us all some lunch."
"I'll help!" Hotaru immediately volunteered.
"No, Hotaru-chan, this is your honeymoon. You're allowed to be pampered. Now take Ranma, and why don't you ask him about why he loves being married to you? He gave me quite the glowing lecture on why he thinks you're great." As the two younger people in the room blushed, Setsuna fought down a snicker. Oh yes, this was going to be very fun.
