She just had to wonder about just why they were there, as her Master apparently had a reason, even if he wasn't making it clear as to what that might be.
"Ah, so you decided to come on in here, boy," rasped a voice, sounding like two pieces of sandpaper being rubbed together. "I've been waiting for you to get here."
The slavegirl jumped a bit as what she had taken as a slightly twisted piece of lifelike sculpture started moving. As she watched, the old man with the hunched shoulder peered at her Master with eyes apparently accustomed to squinting. Smiling, the man chuckled just a bit, and then waggled a finger at the teenaged boy's face.
"You come in here for a reason, now didn't you?"
"What d'ya think?" Ranma grunted.
"I think that you could have always just come in to make an old man's day, bringing a pretty young thing like this to visit."
"Uh... no."
With a chuckle, the old man relaxed his hunched shoulders and shuffled away from the pigtailed boy. "Don't worry. I'm not about to take her away from you. Never such a good thing."
"Ummm...." Melfina murmured. "Why are we here?"
"Kinda needed ta," her Master reminded her.
"But where is this?"
"It's an alchemist's shop, young lady," the elderly man murmured, and waved a vial of purple liquid in front of her face. "We can do a lot here, even if most people don't rush for us."
"Where do they go?"
"The stores downstairs, of course. All their designer clothes, latest gadgets, and amazing foods. They think that they did it first, of course, but it's the same thing over and over again. But they only come up here because they need or want to."
"Oh. And it's like that for us?" she asked, cocking her head into a questioning position.
"I'd say so. Your Master here has need of my services. And if I don't miss with my guess, I'd say that he needs:
