Ranma slowly opened his eyes to see Akane leaning over him, Nabiki behind her.
"...No, not with Ukyo... It's nothing but a couple of bruises I got in a fight..." he winced as he felt another one of his bones slowly snap.
"It doesn't look like a couple of bruises to me," said Akane. "If it was, Kasumi wouldn't have had to bandage you all up!" It was then that Ranma got over his nice spell when he noticed Hikari wasn't around.
"Well, it doesn't concern you, all right?" shouted Ranma. "Jeez, can't you just leave me alone for once, you uncute excuse for a fiancee'?!"
"Well, fine!" Akane shouted back as Nabiki rolled her eyes and walked out, some yen bills in her hand. "It's not like I care about what you think of me!" She then stormed out of his room, obviously in a major huff.
"Well fine yourself!" Ranma shouted again. "You shouldn't because I don't care how you think about me!"
"Fine!"
"FINE!"
"FINE!"
"Could you two stop shouting, please? You're giving me a headache..." said the voice of Soun Tendo as he walked into Ranma's room.
"...Sorry, Mr. Tendo." said Ranma, his angry look still on his face. He then looked around, his face changing to one of hope. "...Hey, I thought Hikari was gonna pick me up and take me to Dr. Tofuu's?"
"She will, but she had to take care of something. She'll be back in a bit," said Soun. It was then that Genma finally decided to walk in and Ranma could hear his laughter already...
"Hey there, boy..." said Genma, much to Ranma's surprise. He thought the first thing out of his mouth would be his annoying laughter. "...Holding up all right?"
"...Yeah." Ranma was quite taken aback by his father's unusual attitude. "...After all, this only happens to me three times a week, right?" Genma smiled, then kneeled down and Soun nodded and left the room.
"...You know, boy, it's not often a martial artist gets to see the Bakuretsu Raisen in action..." Genma said, a serious look on his face. "Consider yourself lucky to even have been on the receiving end of it. It's not something that's seen every day, you know."
"...The Bakuretsu Raisen?" said Ranma. Was that what Hikari hit him with? "...What's that?" Genma nodded and sat down next to his son as he pushed his glasses up his nose.
"You see boy, there are four special techniques that only master martial artists are capable of performing," said Genma. "These would be the Bakuretsu Raisen, or the Exploding Lightning Strike; the Shouryuu Houken, or the Rising Dragon Fire Fist; the Byakukegaretate, or White Blood-stained Hand; and the Yamafunkeisen, or Mountain Decapitation Strike."
"...All right, but that doesn't explain much of anything," said Ranma, starting to become annoyed with his father now.
"Of course not, boy, I'm not finished yet," said Genma, shooting his son a glare. "Anyways, the Bakuretsu Raisen is a master's technique, and attacks with such speed and such force that the defender is beat to the point of near-crippled before they can even react. It's a technique that is meant to disable an opponent so that the fight isn't prolonged."
"...So, you're saying that barely anyone's learned this attack because it's so powerful?" Ranma asked. "And that Hikari is some sort of martial arts master?"
"It seems that it's so..." said Genma. After a few seconds of silence, Ranma came to a realization and narrowed his eyes, looking at his father.
"...So, pops... Exactly how did you know what Hikari did to me...?" Ranma said, glaring at his father. Genma's eyes widened, then he stood.
"...I... saw your fight with her," he said, crossing his arms and closing his eyes in a sage-like manner. Ranma glared at him even more, whapping him upside the head with the nearby chair, Genma not opening his eyes.
"...So you've been spying on me all day, old man?!" said Ranma.
"Of course not, boy, I just happened to notice your fight with the girl on my way from the riverside!" said Genma. It was then that he began to laugh, which was Ranma's predicted reaction. "You got beat so badly, that I think you may need to restart your training!" As Genma laughed, Ranma whapped him with the chair again as Genma ran down the stairs.
"You're injured, boy! You should stay in bed! Hahahaha!!!" he shouted from the bottom of the stairwell. Ranma knew he was right; he couldn't risk injuring himself anymore. He needed to get better soon so that he wouldn't be vulnerable to people like Kuno, Ryoga, Mousse, and the old freak. Besides, if he left, he'd miss Hikari's coming to pick him up. And he surely didn't want to miss that. He blushed as he thought about her once more and imagined her sweet smile and her kind voice, saying that she was here to take him to Tofuu's...
But it wasn't his imagination. She really was in his room, telling him that she was here to pick him up. He snapped back to reality, driving his thoughts out of his head to stop his blushing.
"Huh? Oh, right..." Ranma said. "But... could you do something for me first...?" Hikari nodded, but as Ranma opened his mouth, someone burst into the room...
