"Oh dear, I hadn't meant to do that," fretted Mihoshi. "Oh dear. Oh my. How terrible."
"What. Did. You. Do?" asked Ranma, spacing each word out.
"Oh well, it's all for the best anyway!" said Mihoshi with great cheer.
"ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH!" said Ranma.
"What you've got is a sword," said Mihoshi.
"I... what?" asked Ranma. "It ain't no dumb wishing sword is it? Been there, done that, got a paperweight somewhere."
"No, it has nothing to do with wishes," said Mihoshi. "I think."
Ranma thought about it, checked his pockets, and pulled out a sword that absolutely should not have fit in there without using Hidden Weapons style. "...I don't usually use weapons."
"This one's special," said Mihoshi with a wink. "It'll get you drawn into all sorts of adventures and has nifty powers."
"Uh huh," said Ranma, his look flat as he looked upon the genie. "What kinda 'powers'?"
Mihoshi had, of course, added in a few aspects not strictly dealing with Ranma's sword.
If one were to ask her about that, she'd most likely call it a 'design feature' and not a screw-up.
It all revolved around the sword being:
