In the Dark Kingdom, everyone had been surprised when Jadeite hadn’t reported in as he was supposed to. Queen Beryl had quickly lost patience with Jadeite and she had ordered Nephrite to investigate. All of the important members of the Dark Kingdom were waiting in Queen Beryl’s audience chamber wanting to know what General Nephrite had found out. Precisely at the appointed time, General Nephrite appeared in the audience chamber and kneeled before Queen Beryl. The queen then said in an annoyed tone, “Nephrite, what has Jadeite been up to that has prevented him from reporting in as by my orders?”
Nephrite then said in a slightly shaky voice, “My Queen, General Jadeite is dead.” Ignoring the gasps of surprise all around him, Nephrite continued to give his report. “When I arrived at the sight of General Jadeite’s demise all that was left of him was his head. All scanning spells state that he and the youma that were with him at the moment of his death were slain by dark magic.”
On hearing this news, Queen Beryl’s eyes narrowed and she said crossly, “You must have preformed the scanning spells incorrectly, General Nephrite. The people of earth are ignorant of magic as their use of this so-called ‘science’ shows. Furthermore, the only other magic users besides those of us in the Dark Kingdom are those people like Sailor V, who obviously are reincarnated senshi from the Silver Millennium. And might I remind you, General, that the senshi of the Silver Millennium didn’t use dark magic.”
Although his face remained composed throughout Beryl’s scolding, Nephrite was furious. He had done those scans perfectly four times, and they all showed that dark magic had been used to kill Jadeite. The fact that dark magic shouldn’t have been used at all had no bearing on the fact that it had been used anyway. Somewhere out there on Earth was a mage, who was at least as strong as two Dark Kingdom Generals. Nephrite might have disliked Jadeite and considered the man to be a fool, but he didn’t doubt Jadeite’s fighting prowess for a moment.
Nephrite watched stoically as Queen Beryl gave Zoisite command of the Earth Invasion Force. While Nephrite was technically next in line of the assignment, Beryl had declared that he was obviously ‘too foolish’ to be worthy of the command. However, Nephrite didn’t care about Zoisite getting that command. That fruitcake was going to get himself killed by the dark mage out there because he was too arrogant to look at the facts for himself.
