Erevan shrugged from where he was leaning up against a pillar. "It was necessary. The whole thing that 'Penitent Lady' scenario depended on was the absolute sacrifice, sincerely given. Those souls and spirits destroyed in an act of final heroism. I disagreed with the whole proceeding from the get-go, but the 'result' was deemed worth the means."
"And you didn't stand in its way or strike against it," said Corellon.
"Well, no, I understood that this was like throwing dwarven moonshine on an open fire," said Erevan. "One wrong move and things get even messier."
"So you cheated," said one of the other elven gods.
"I don't like no-win scenarios, so I just made a couple of moves of my own," confessed Erevan. "These are fragments, essences, backups, impressions. Sort of like the spiritual mechanism that occurs when an elven couple has a child. Because these are just sort of reincarnated descendents, the sacrifice remains valid. This is NOTHING on how Lolth was cheating."
"Well, that's HER," said one of the goddesses.
"Exactly," verbally pounced Erevan. "And if a god of TRICKERY can't indulge, who can?"
"If they can't be the same as they were," said Sehanine, "then who shall they be?"
"I've got that covered," said Erevan. "Enough of themselves that they're still themselves, but someone else as much as they need to be. I had to contact some trickster gods who get out onto some of the odder human planes. Just check out some of these reference manuals!"
"Pictures with text?" asked Aerdrie Faenya as she flipped through one. "What are these?"
"They are called manga," said Erevan, "and they depict things as they are in this other universe. Sort of."
the present:
"Uhhh," said Ranma, seated at the table of the Tendo home. "I kinda got something I need to say. Just lemee say first off it ain't my fault, not that that ever does any good. And second, it just really probably ain't a good idea to attack me right off the bat. I just get the feeling this ain't gonna turn out well."
Nabiki nibbled an unfamiliar confection from the little bowl of the same that had somehow appeared on the table. It didn't look like anything Akane would have made, but it didn't look like traditional food as Kasumi would have put together. "Okay, so?"
"What did you do now?" asked Akane, unhappy already.
"I kinda met a genie or something, and I kinda made a wish except it all turned out kinda weird," said Ranma.
"Is that why you're wearing ear extensions?" asked Nabiki, reaching over to tug at the 'spock-ear' makeup. Then freezing when she noticed that they felt like real flesh down to the pulse and warmth. She sank back down, getting an itchy feeling in between her shoulder-blades.
"Well, they're kinda real actually," said Ranma.
"Accident with a mechanical rice-picker?" asked Nabiki, wondering what was up. Something definitely was. Something felt off.
"I guess I oughta just show ya," said Ranma, giving off the air of someone who expected all heck to break loose. He held up one hand and snapped his fingers.
Suddenly the yard was filled with ninja.
And knights.
And samurai.
There was one thing further that was decidedly odd, and that was that they all had pointy ears, even more so than Ranma.
