Lamp Of Mihoshi: Elf Esteem [Episode 209799]

by Kestral

The United Nations General Assembly stopped what they were doing. Which was, as was usual, arguing. What they were arguing about might be subject to change, but if one were a casual observer not entirely aware of the various political currents one might well conclude that the entire thing were a stage production for the various players to show off their bluster for the folks back home. Not that this was the case, of course.

None the less, they stopped when the wolf entered the room, went up to the podium, and let out a long and angry sounding howl.

That the wolf in question was roughly the size of a pony was well and truly noted by everyone present.

That dozens of little pixies, which were nearly naked female humanoids with dragonfly wings, were bringing around sheets of paper to the various ambassadors and diplomats merely caused a number of them to sniff suspiciously at their water bottles.

"Excuse me, please," said a normal-sized woman with butterfly wings as she came to occupy the position the wolf was relinquishing. "We're terribly sorry to intrude on this august group, and I'm sure you've all got terribly much to talk over. Nonetheless, if I may just have a moment of your time?"

"This really isn't how you schedule time to address the assembly," said someone who had apparently decided this was all a dream, therefore the giant freaking WOLF sitting down to his right was some sort of hallucination.

"Quite," said the woman. "If you would terribly mind just pencilling in sometime in the future? We've got a bit of a refugee crisis. It would help enormously if you gentlemen and ladies could put aside a brief moment of your time for it."

"Refugees?" asked someone in the assembly.

"Oh yes," said the woman. "Quite so. They're going to need a place to call their own. Some little swath they can occupy. From what I've observed something like a province within someone's nation might well do the trick. A segment of mountains or desert or something someone's got available would be just what they need. A fixer-upper that they can make habitable and then settle into."

"How many refugees?" asked someone from the front row.

"Well, counting the new Prince, who is actually a Japanese citizen of this world but also the Prince Of Elves due to a rather complicated arrangement," began the woman, checking a crystal the size of a fist, "let's see - roughly eighteen hundred people."

"Eighteen hundred refugees?" asked the previous speaker, noting things down.

"Yes, mind you that some are like the pixies and don't take up much room," said the woman, "and some are magical beasts like unicorns and Wise Beasts and the like."

Someone else got up. "Excuse me? Are you Titania by any chance?"

"Oh goodie," said the woman, clapping her hands. "I DO so appreciate being recognized."

"And that," said 'Titania' an hour later, "is that."

"Are you going to drop that ridiculous disguise?" asked Corellon.

The Faerie Queen shimmered and became Erevan. "It was the lace choker, wasn't it? A bit too much, was it?"

"You're enjoying this way too much."

One of Ranma's elves had been watching something in a crystal ball. A crystal ball whose reflections seemed to shift and flicker without there being anything that could possibly match up those reflections.

Nabiki would have liked to deny the whole thing. To be sarcastic and skeptical. She WOULD pay attention to the man behind the curtain, get up on stage and explain how the magician was doing their trick, and so on.

The pixie sitting atop her head, eating a hard peppermint candy that was bigger than her head, was making this a difficult prospect. She could not be there, but she was.

"Oh my, so you're an elven prince now?" asked Kasumi.

"Uh yeah, that's what I'm told," said Ranma, fidgeting. "And these are kinda my fiancees."

"'fiancees' as in plural?" asked Nabiki.

"Yeah... sorry about this," said Ranma, hanging his head.
