Coupled Union - Combined Schools: Related Concerns [Episode 212942]

by Kender

Had she been able to know what she was going to be doing, Akane would have taken herself to task for being as distracted as she was during class. Normally she prided herself on being dedicated to whatever it was, be it her schoolwork, training in the Art, or household chores. In her view, if she was going to do something, she might as well do it right. That didn't mean that it had to be perfect, but as long as she took it seriously and did her best with it, then it was well worth it.

Right now though, she was trying to work up some enthusiasm over listening to the teacher's lecture.

Oh, it wasn't that she was that bored with it, but she did have other things on her mind. This was supposed to be the happy time in her life, what with her husband having returned to her, but she was getting a headache instead. Between her father acting all overbearing, her classmates trying to pry her private life out into the open, and Kuno of all people thinking that he had a say in her marriage, this was not the reunion that she had hoped for. Actually, it was turning out to be something of a major mess, and she hoped that she could fix it soon.

At least Ranma was there with her. He likely wasn't going to be anywhere near as much of a help with her schoolwork as he would with her martial arts training, but she wasn't looking at him for a study buddy. Not that she wasn't wanting to have him take the lessons more seriously, seeing as he kept on glancing towards her. She did like the idea that he wanted to look at her, but this wasn't the proper time. They had other worries, and they could get some loving in later on.

But then that was the problem. Between the sense that she'd forgotten some things, and the pressures that she was under, she wasn't able to enjoy what she had with the man that she loved. Her daydreams had her cuddling happily with Ranma, or having a nice picnic in the park, but it didn't look like they'd be able to do that any time soon. Instead, they were going to have to wait for some unknown time to get to be alone together.

Of course, he didn't seem to be all that bothered by that fact. Ranma was apparently so relaxed at that moment, he seemed to be trying his best to wave at her. Just why he would want her attention so desperately, she didn't know, but it was fairly troubling that he would try to bother at a time like this. Fortunately, he seemed to actually realize that he should keep it down so that the teacher wouldn't see him. That meant that he was learning, and she was happy about that. Although they could count on people like Yuka and Sayuri to help them out, she didn't want him to get them into trouble if they could avoid it.

Then again, he could exasperate her with what looked something like a spastic panic attack. For some reason, he was all excited about something, and she couldn't tell what exactly that could be. School wasn't exactly his thing before, and she rather doubted that he would be all that hot for math now. With that in mind, she was left to wonder what that would mean, and hoped that it wouldn't be all that much of a problem.

"Pardon me for intruding, Miss Tendo," drawled the achingly familiar voice of the teacher as he moved around her desk so that she could see him. "Or perhaps I should say Mrs. Saotome."

Akane gave him a weak smile as she tilted her head back to admit that she now knew that he was there.

"How good of you to join us. Despite your husband's attempts to remind you that you were in class, you seemed to have left us for a little bit there."

Hearing that put Ranma's actions in perspective now, and she winced as she recognized just how dull witted she'd been.

"Perhaps now that you have returned your attention to the class, you can help us work on the example that I just gave the class. Before you do the punishment assignment that I'll be giving you in addition to tonight's homework, that is."

A low groan was all that she could manage as she slumped in her seat, realizing that she only had herself to blame for this.

Keeping an eye on all the variables was something that Nabiki tended to do naturally. It wasn't that she did something like calculating out the possible hands in a card game, but at that table, she was likely to keep an eye on the oddities of the other players. She'd take note of who seemed to be more conservative, who was likely to react to certain types of prodding, and who would be the bigger challenges than the others. In a way, life was a game to her, and she liked to manipulate the odds in her favor.

That had her rather put out by how things were turning out as of late. Denying her baby sister her relationship wasn't an option, but that same marriage was starting to be surrounded by all sorts of problems that had not been in the plan for that day. A little mischief was one thing, but having unchecked chaos take over was quite another. Things were getting a bit out of hand, and Nabiki wasn't exactly in favor of that.

Unfortunately, she was certain that she was missing some important details, like what exactly everyone wanted out of it. Having married students in the school was new, and there was no way to really judge how that would turn out. As it was, everyone was trying to get enough information to satisfy themselves, which was a problem, seeing as many of those details were private and precious to Akane and Ranma. The other students would just have to be told about the basic information, and reminded, constantly if need be, that there were some things that could not be discussed. No doubt that would be a let down for the more nosy and perverted of their classmates, but by then, they'd be seen for the troublemakers that they were.

Hopefully, that would work, although she had no guarantees. If anything, she was already going to have to have a chat with her sister and brother in law to remind them that it was best to keep things to one's self much of the time. Yet, she had no way to be certain that something else wouldn't show up to cause her all sorts of headaches, but she was rather certain that she could handle it. Still, she did have a sense that she was forgetting something that should have been there right at that moment.

Shrugging that off, the middle Tendo daughter tried her best to concentrate on her classical literature lesson, not noticing the continued absence of a certain would be samurai, while:
