Still, it was still better to share a drink with a companion in Genma's mind. Not only could share the company of a friend, but he could do so with the liquor flowing along the fun that they were having. This wasn't something that he could do on his training journey with his son, save for meeting someone nice along the way. Being able to join someone that he had long been friends with was more of the sort of thing that he wanted, and he'd been long looking forward to having the chance to do it again.
"Ain't this the thing, eh, Tendo?" Genma mumbled past alcohol slackened lips.
Soun finished sipping from his sake cup and frowned thoughtfully at his friend. "What's that, Saotome?"
"All this. Remember back when we were training? Living under harsh burdens, sleeping out in the open, and trying to stay one step ahead of the Master...."
"As I recall of it, we was horrible."
"Exactly, and now look at all this. You've got a nice house. Good digs."
"It is nice, isn't it?" the Tendo patriarch commented, puffing out his chest. "I'm proud of it."
"And now my shon is going to get to share it."
"What about my daughters?"
"Of course. It's only 'cause he gets one of them that he'll be here," Genma slurred. "He'll marry one of them, and they'll go to carry on the shchools!"
"It's not like they don't like each other too. Did you see how my girls took to him."
"Just the old Saotome charm, my friend. The old Saotome charm...."
"If you say so. I'm just glad that they like him," Soun told the other man, smiling as Genma poured more sake into his cup and swirling the liquid slightly.
"That they do."
"Everything is working out so well!" sobbed the man with the mustache. "It's everything that we dreamed of!"
"The schools will carry on, and we can retire all the fhun we can get! Let them do the work!"
"Can't we give them advice?"
"You're right 'bout that. They'll need it," the big man allowed, and then chugged some more sake.
"They don't have experience."
"Just think about them giving us heirs."
Blinking, Soun looked towards his friend. "But that would mean that my baby would have to...."
"Don't worry about it. They'd have to do it eventually."
"I'm not sure that I like that idea."
"At least think about the grandchildren."
"That would certainly be nice," the Tendo patriarch said, and cocked his head to the side. "To have children in the house again."
"All of whom would be the children of our children."
"Which means that...."
"The schools will go on!" chorused the two men, laughing with delight as they did so.
"My son and your daughter will make everything good!" Genma chortled.
Dropping his cup to the table, Soun frowned. "Obviously. There aren't any other choices, are there?"
"Of course not. Why would there be? The boy hasn't had a chance for anythin' else."
"That's good then."
"Exactly. And so, we have to...."
"Absolutely," Soun agreed, joining his friend in their new activity.
As dogs began to howl and cats started to hide, the two men began to sing happy songs from their youths, while:
