That wasn't going to happen here. Certainly he could have found the Soun Tendo of this world, but it wouldn't be the same. As it was, the woman who was considered to be his wife here was not quite the same woman who'd sent him off with that damned agreement all those years ago, so had to admit that it was entirely likely that the version of his old friend from this world might not be the same as the man he knew. If anything, it was possible that the man didn't even exist, which would make joining the schools terribly difficult.
So, it was easier to allow a joining of the boy with someone else, which would certainly carry on his line. Having another generation of Saotomes to carry on the family legacy was what he expected, and wasn't above making sure that it happened. It wouldn't have the same sort of focus as the Tendo arrangement would have, but he rather doubted that they would ever be able to return to their world.
He just had to wonder about this engagement that the boy had right now, as he had never really approved of it.
Of course, that wasn't to say that Genma disliked the girl completely. She was an heiress after all, and with that sort of wealth, he could live out his retirement quite well indeed. On top of that, the boy was learning all sorts of special techniques, which was certainly what he wanted to happen. However, it also had things so that the boy was relying on others entirely too much, and Genma himself wasn't getting to be able to get into all those interesting secret scrolls either.
Having that be the case made him exceedingly grumpy, and he rather wished that he'd been better able to control what had happened. But between what that woman had been doing, and his desire to tweak the nose of that man who was the father of the girl who was to be his daughter-in-law by that agreement, things had gotten out of hand. He was rather bothered by having things stumble in that way, but he rather hoped that he could fix it.
And in all honesty, he had already worked to that aim, as he had made alternate arrangements. Fortunately, he had the... wisdom to be able to see opportunities for that sort of advancement before this. Had he been stuck with what he was seeing now, he knew that he would have never found anything worthy of being a Saotome bride.
Why, just looking at the girls he'd just had to deal with made it ever so disheartening to think about which direction the next generation was taking. That 'Akane' girl had fallen faster than a leaf in autumn, and was actually now laying face down in the dirt, her rear slightly up and on display. Near as he could tell, she was something of an embarrassment as a martial artist, and he was rather happy that someone like her had no chance to be with his son in either world.
Instead, he'd made good choices for his son, and could leave this little girl to take a nap on the ground with that stick weilding boy. No, Genma knew that his choices would be better for his boy than her, and was glad that he had made them. After all, if the boy had been left to make his own choices, Ranma would have been hobbled by inexperience and hormones, which could be troublesome for a kid like him.
Luckily, he had a wise father who could take the reins and guide his son to the role that he had to play, while:
