Many people who have read and know "Ranma ½" know of the "Springs of Sorrow", located in the Bayankala Mountain ranges of China. In canon, Ranma Saotome and his moron, I mean, father, Genma Saotome, has traveled far and wide through the world for ten years, training Ranma to become a world-class martial artist, and, as an aside, a "men amongst men". Many of Genma's training methods would have and has been moronic for his part, and downright cruel on Ranma's part, or so fanon says. In canon, they would go to Nerima, and thus, begin all of Ranma's problems for the next three years, but not before visiting China and the aforementioned Springs. In canon, they would have a guide to take them to the Springs, and act as their translator. In, canon, Genma, and by extension, Ranma, would not listen to the Guide's warnings and begin sparring on the out-shooting bamboos growing in the area.
By some twist of fate, Ranma would have knocked Genma out and into one of the pools below. In canon, the emerging cursed Genma would have been a panda. Standing in shock, Ranma could only stare as the panda jumps and strikes him, knocking him into one of the other pools. In canon, the emerging cursed Ranma would have been a short, cute, and busty redhead with blue eyes.
⑨, this ain't canon. But for the sake of continuity, we'll follow part of canon.
-Years ago, exact time withheld due to sake of options.
In a spring that would have been the so-called "Spring of Drowned Girl", a different being managed to fall into its waters. A person from the mystical land/world of Gensokyo. Despite popular belief, the spring doesn't necessarily 'drown' a 'victim', but if such is a spring a 'template' spring, it would become a spring of whatever was in there first. But the 'victim' did not know that, and as such, as they were leaving, they did not notice the Guide at the time see them exit what was once a template spring. The Guide, not really knowing better just called the pool the "Spring of Drowned Girl", and considered that the end of the matter.
Present
Ranma could feel something change. He could not see what he had transformed into, he just instinctively knew he was changed. One indicator was the power that seemed to well inside of him, waiting to be unleashed. Another is that he doesn't really remember when his hands were ever this slim and frail looking...
And since the hell did he have a pedicure!?
On the banks of the pool, both panda and Guide stared as a figure emerged from the pool...
