"What's that?" asked Iruka-sensei.
"All the troublemakers are accounted for and away from us," guessed Kakashi.
The Hokage nodded.
"So what DO we do about the teams?" asked Yuhi. "The original plan would have put Sasuke Uchiha, Sakura Haruno, and Naruto Uzumaki in one team. Combining the best physical performance, the best academic performance, and the worst student all in the same group so as to even things out."
"Now, with the Ninetails apparently manifesting in an unexpectedly frivolous manner," said the Hokage, "we can see if we need to rearrange things."
"There would be good reason to put Naruto and Hinata on the same team, but also excellent reasons not to do so," admitted Yuhi.
Morning:
Naruto walked along the street. Big day. After the nonsense of yesterday, including Konohamaru and the picture-taking, he was ready for some normalcy. Just trying to wrap his head around being engaged was enough of a revelation.
There was that clubhouse. The clubhouse of the Legion Of Sasuke Fangirls. Ergh. Looked like the tail end of some humongous firework planted in the ground. Made him sick just thinking about it. He'd been over the place though, and the remaining 'Engagement To Sasuke' cards weren't there.
Still, today he would get to find out which three man squad he'd be part of. Hopefully he'd get put on the same squad with Hinata - that way they could use that pactio stuff.
Iruka waited as the expected groups did pretty much as he expected.
Sasuke Uchiha was early. Focussed like the tip of a kunai on vengeance against his brother. Of course he'd be early - he wanted to get everything over with. Though admittedly he HAD lightened up a bit, possibly due to relief over having destroyed as many 'Engagement to Sasuke' cards as he had.
Tenten - early as usual. Mediocre grades. Average in most respects, though her weapons skills were considerable. Though she was with Kiba and Shino and a few others in staring at something.
"Sensei?" asked Kiba, holding the piece of paper up. "Is this true?"
"Is what true?" asked Iruka, not knowing what they were looking at.
"Hinata Hyuga is engaged... to Naruto?!" asked Kiba, managing to sound quite incredulous.
"Ah, well," said Iruka.
"I knew she'd been watching him, and I knew of her interest, but I thought he was just completely clueless," said Kiba.
Iruka considered briefly how to respond before he just nodded.
"Whoa," said several of the kids.
"They're engaged, NOT married," pointed out Iruka.
"What about this 'pactio' ability?" asked Tenten.
"That's secret," said Iruka. "How did you know about it?"
"I passed a half-dozen of these flyers on the way in," said Kiba.
"oh," said Iruka, sitting down and face-palming. So much for THAT secret.
"What does a 'pactio' do?" asked Kiba.
Hinata walked to the academy on what would be her last day there.
She was now a gennin and would be assigned to a three man team.
Who would she end up with? There had been speculation, of course. A three-kunoichi team was deemed most likely by many students, probably with Yuhi managing it. Hinata thought that actually fairly unlikely. Gennin got a wide variety of jobs. The jobs gennin were hired for were not well paying, but they WERE numerous.
Another possibility bandied about was the use of specialty teams. In which case she might end up with her cousin Neji and Sasuke Uchiha, for an ocular specialty group. Hinata didn't think that likely either.
Her own take, that she'd kept privately, was that the selection was to try and balance out the individuals within the group. That this had a good chance of pairing quiet Hinata up with loud Naruto... well she had her own bias there didn't she?
