Chained Kaede: Class In Session [Episode 219961]

by Kestral

There were universes which were relatively pure. Unsullied. Things continued on in a specific fashion and never deviated from that path. In one such universe - Ranma Saotome would have gotten cursed at Jusenkyo, been taken to the Tendo Training Hall on a rainy day after his sixteenth birthday, and eventually would have rescued his fiancee Akane from a demi-god figure known as Saffron The Phoenix. These were called Mainline universes by groups like DIOS which travelled universes.

Then there were universes where the pattern of the Mainline blended or crossed with another Mainline's influence. These were called by DIOS operatives 'crossover universes' among other things, depending mainly on what the degree of mingling occurred. An example of that being the universe where a ninja named Naruto Uzumaki had the starseed of Princess Serenity sealed within him.

Then there were universes which were equidistant from several points, and had a significantly different history as well. Various groups had different names for this, but the general consensus among DIOS operatives were that such universes would be called 'altverses' or 'alternative history universes' - indicating that things could range from slightly different to completely and utterly screwed up.

So it was with this Chained World. There were many individuals who were very similar to what they would have been elsewhere, and yet in some ways were entirely different.

Ranma, of course, knew nothing of this. He knew of other worlds, and that this wasn't his original one. He also knew that this world had a lot of stuff that was just plain WEIRD by his standards.

Not that there weren't cool parts of it as well. Being considered a Lord of a Ninja Village, learning special manuevers, having his own personal ninja/sparring partner - all things he didn't have a problem with.

School... that was something more problematic.

"The first contact with the societies of the Far West is generally recognized to have been in 792, when the Fujiwara Clan came across the one known as the Mamluk. Apparently a slave-warrior who was washed ashore from some naval battle, who became an accepted warrior of the house until his death in 815," continued the teacher. "Little is known about this warrior, except that he provided knowledge of some of the capabilities of his former masters..."

Ranma suppressed a yawn as another rainstorm came in, this one more of a gloomy drizzle than anything else.

"...speculated currently from the records that he was actually of the people now known as the Bulgars..."

Ranma looked over the students also in this class. Most were fairly nondescript. A few stood out as being different.

"...the Takamichi Clan in 825, which attempted to discover how much of the Mamluk's story was correct..."

There was that girl that had attacked them, as well as the two girls and the two boys who'd been under her command. The boys looked a lot worse for the wear though, and those injuries didn't match up with what had happened in the fight.

"Now the main branches of the Takimichi Clan survive to this day as the Takamachi, Seta, Kinnomoto, Kirijo, and Testarossa clans..."

That one gal didn't look too good either. The bandages might have just disguised what she had written on her forehead, but Ranma wasn't too sure about that. Well, whatever.

"...with the first ninja clans established in the Sengoku Period, this was changed."

There was something else about several of the people bunched together though. Something... odd.

"...Arisato-san, this especially regards you - so you MIGHT be able to answer a question about it despite being a new transfer. What is the significance of the Iga Treaty?"

One of the slightly odd ones stood up. "The Iga Treaty was developed between the Iga and Koga clans of ninja..."

Ranma frowned as he considered the "vibe" he was getting off those four right there together. Ninjutsu maybe? Might just have to look into that.

He wasn't going to be around here more than a year or so, but it already looked quite interesting.

Minato Arisato glanced at the pony-tailed boy near the window, then turned his attention back to the lesson.

As the heir to the Arisato family, he was the heir to those traditions, which meant:
